If we tried to do it differently, it would be a judgment call every time. I'd say it happens about once a game to someone and the occurrences are spread out fairly evenly among us all. Well, it might have been in this case, but I think what Jon meant was that if someone else gets out on your ball in play it's scored a fielder's choice pretty much no matter what, so no judgment is made. Likewise we don't do errors, advancing on the throws, etc. If you hit a single, then make it to second while they throw home, then third after it gets by the catcher, we score that a triple. That's what I meant too. The novice might think that if it was a "hit" into the oufield or "would have been a hit anyway", that it should be ruled a hit. I think the rule is that if it is a force out on a ball you hit, then it's a FC. If the runner was going from second to third and tagged out, than it would probably be a hit. The "living up to the integrity" means that you seem to at least be applying the said rules appropriately, even if it makes the stats look bad.		Rate this comment Yours: Rated 0 times.
