The Minnesota Vikings, a study in suckitude.
11/26/2006 7:37 pm
The Minnesota Vikings found themselves fractions of yards away from taking a 38-13 lead against the Arizona Cardinals with 3 minutes left in the game. The Metrodome was starting to clear out. Those of in the know sat still. "Clearly these people have never seen a Viking game in their lives," I said to the guys ahead of me. They laughed, and nodded in agreement. Moments later we were holding our breath as Matt Leinart tossed 'Hail Marys' into the endzone.
The worst part? No one in the stands was surprised. In fact, after the Cardinals returned a fumble for a touchdown, no one in the stands saw it going any other way. The tension was very noticeable.
There was roughly 1 minute left, it was 4th and long, the score was 19-31. The entire stadium was on their feet pleading for a stop. "Now this is a jaded crowd!" I said. 4 and 9 + one minute left + 12 point lead doesn't equal worry for most teams. For Vikings fans it means KNOWING it's going down to 00:00. The Cardinals getting the onside kick was a forgone conclusion before they even got the touchdown that would require the kick off. After all, we had seen it before.
Even though it was a meaningless game it was still a microcosm of what it's like to be a Viking fan. You can never enjoy anything too much or for too long and everything that can go wrong will.
Alex - But let history remember, that as free men, we chose to make it so!

Fox refused to give any updates until the game was over, so I was refreshing yahoo frantically (I have Boldin on one of my important fantasy teams) and having flashbacks to whatever year that was when the Cardinals made a last play comeback against the Vikings.

1 nut for having a relevant comment about a play that sent the Packers into the playoffs instead of the Vikings? That comment should be headed to the comment hall of fame (which might actually be an interesting feature/article).

That was a great game, even better than the Packers whalloping the Broncos that day. Ooo was I giddy. Especially since then all of the Packer season ticket holders had given up hope and I got to go to the Seahawk/Packer playoff game. Awesomeness.

Well, it's not official. But second day pick (perhaps round 5) to Jacksonville. That's unbelievable if true.

Edit: To put into context, there were less teams interested in Randy Moss than Williamson, and Moss only went for one round higher. Oh this wacky NFL.

So, I guess you're the smartest Viking fans on all known Viking websites. Congratulations.

I don't think this is a Viking site, Jeremy is a vikes fan and by far the most vocal contributor... I don't know about Matt or Jon, but I know Sarah would die on the rack before she called herself a Vikings fan.

In the picture it's spelled Tavaris instead of Tarvaris. Apparently, we Vikings fans are supposed to spend more than the 2 seconds we do looking at stupid "joke" pictures that Packer fans make. Therefore, we are also supposed to notice a misspelling of an uncommon name of a young player who isn't even the star of the team.
I guess were just not good fans.... especially since the Vikings have never won a Super Bowl.

The point I was trying to make was two fold. One, it's a funny picture. Two, I actually was congratulating Carlos on being the only one to pick up on it. Which to me, makes it even ten times funnier.
Really? That's terrible. My team has won like a bunch I think.

Edit: I was formulating a post in my mind for when I had time that was errily simmilar to Matt's. Also, would someone care to explain how this is funny? I must be missing something because it's just not. And I don't mean in the "I can only assume it's somehow making fun of the vikings so it isn't funny" way I mean it just isn't anything.
Paul, what do you think, is this anything?

Carl noticed that Tarvaris was spelled wrong. Let's ask him. It isn't that funny, it's just a picture of TJ with the Prince symbol that I posted here. I'm a Packer fan, we do that. You are nutcanners, you have to dissect it bit by bit for answers instead of just realizing it's Jackson with the symbol.

It would've been just a picture that really wasn't all that funny or interesting, but then you had to go and add the caption at the bottom that just made the whole thing confusing.
What's the point in being both acknowledged and not dissected?

1) I feel as Jeremy does; I just don't get what is supposed to be funny.
I'd say, "no" it's not anything.
2) That other picture says "PackOne" on the lefthand side and then says "The Gay Team". Does that mean Packone = the gay team? Or is it just that you are a member of the gay team?
And really, I thought using "gay" as an insult (much like pagers, the tv show "Singled Out" and the phrase "retard" as an insult) was something we left in the last century. Can I get a ruling on this?

Well, there are actual quality differences. There's more chlorine in twin cities water. Some people might miss that if it's all they've known, but I think plenty of people would be happy to drink it and not feel like they're sucking down pool water.
