Steelers 18 @ Bengals 16 |
SarahBengals don't win in the postseason.
JonYeah I know the whole QB situation for both teams. I still think the Bengals are better. |
Seahawks 10 @ Vikings 9 |
JeremyThis one could go a lot differently now that we aren't decimated at every level including our main anti-Wilson tool in Barr. I guess time will tell. Hopefully more time than about 18 minutes of game time this go round.
SarahI really really really really don't want the Seahawks to win. That being said, they scare me and will probably go back to the Super Bowl.
JonI guess it's gonna be cold. |
Packers 35 @ Commanders 18 |
JeremyThis is an interesting game because though Packer fans were torn on the division and 3 seed, everyone thought Washington was a the best playoff matchup. Conversely Washington fans were hoping for Green Bay. Of course they can both be correct about it being the weakest available matchup. I guess we'll find out who was right to hope.
SarahI could see the Packers losing this game 38-10. Easily.
JonGotta remember Washington is a good home team. They haven't beaten a lot of good teams, but Green Bay has been struggling, so this isn't out of reach. |

Sarah's sentiments about the Packers-Cardinals game are sad, yet indicative of how far the Packers fell this year, and are likely shared by most Packer fans (me included). Coming off of the worst Conference Championship Game collapse in NFL history (they had a 2 possession lead and the ball with 4 minutes left!!!!), the feeling going into the 2015 season was probably the most "Super Bowl or Bust" mentality any team has had in recent memory, both from the Packers and the players. Fans saw Super Bowl 50 as the Packers to lose. Then Nelson went down, and what ensued was a less than stellar Rodgers performance, receivers not filling in for the missing pro bowler, an offensive line that struggled all season, and a team that went from "Super Bowl or Bust" to "yea...we won a wild card game". It was satisfying that they didn't get bounced in the first round, but that my expectations went from the highest possible to "at least they'll finish in the top 8" is quite depressing when I look back and think about it. So, perhaps I'll just stop thinking about it. The Packers were the underdogs and the road team in 2010, but I don't think there are too many people who are going to be calling them the "best team in the NFL" like some provocatively did going into the 2010 playoffs. Also, as a random note, in the last 6 playoff seasons, the Packers have held the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 seeds (not in that order). |

The Packers are going to win the Superbowl. |

Well, the league couldn't let the narrative of the Miracle in Motown go unfulfilled, right? |

Also, the head ref for the Packers-Cardinals game has a tendency to call penalties on DBs tighter than others (according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN), which means that there could be a lot of passing penalties*. Also, according to Seifert, Clete Blakeman's crew was fairly lenient on offensive holding (called the 2nd fewest in the league). Green Bay had the 5th most offensive holding calls, Arizona had the fewest offensive holding calls against them. Basically, my point is that they are basically just handing this game to the Packers under the guise of them being 7 point underdogs. *On an interesting note, the Packers and Cardinals are 1-2 in ranking of beneficiaries on passing penalties. The Packers had the fewest against them while the Cardinals were league average. |

The one thing, Jon, that would indicate that this game could go differently than the one 3 weeks ago is that in the game 3 weeks ago, the Packers were down 3 of their starting 5 offensive lineman. They moved Josh Sitton to left tackle for the first time in his career, and by the end of the game they were literally down to 5 offensive lineman that weren't marked as "Out". Rodgers got sacked 8 times, gave up 2 fumbles that were returned for touchdowns. In this game, it appears that everyone on the O-line is healthy. Will it make a difference? Who knows? But it is a somewhat significant difference in personnel.

Chiefs 30 @ Texans 0
Jeremy
Andy Reid might snake coach of the year away from Mike Zimmer even though the Chiefs were expected to be where they are, and the Vikings beat them. Besides overcoming a big injury, the only reason Reid is on the map is because they recovered from sucking so hard for so long in the first place, and people are very what-have-you-done-for-me-lately.Sarah
You know I'm going to do well when I pick all away teams. Chiefs really picked up their game though after starting off so rough. Texans won the AFC South. That's hardly a division.Jon
Crazy season by the Chiefs. You know what I don't wanna hear anymore of? People ragging on Andy Reid. I'm sure he's not perfect in every aspect of coaching (a trait shared by every other coach anyway), but he's been one of the best coaches in the league for over a decade. He's a hall of fame coach. So zip it.
