Packers 25 @ Falcons 14 |
SarahThis could be a sneaky game. However, Rodgers enjoys playing in domes.
JonThat playoff game from last year is lingering. But the Falcons aren't that bad. The Packers can be thrown on, and the Falcons can throw. And run. I think Atlanta can win this. |
Bears 13 @ Lions 24 |
SarahHow 'bout dem Lions?
JonWouldn't surprise me at all if the Bears won this, but there isn't any overwhelming reason to choose them. |

From Bob McGinn's scouting report for the Atlanta game: "I think Green Bay's got a chance to blow them out," an executive in personnel for a Falcons opponent said. |

Early in his career, the media seemed to swoon over Brett Favre painting him as nothing more than mythical. Now, it seems the reaction is the same but in the opposite direction. Everything he says and does recently is scrutinized, overanalyzed, blown out of proportion. I want to address some of what he said and give my take on it, because I didn't really have a problem with anything he said. In my opinion, nothing he said was untrue, and it seemed mostly complimentary, unless you were looking for a reason as to why it was a dig. And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. This is true. Rodgers inherited a team that was one win away from a Super Bowl. The Packers had a good set of wide receivers to throw to as well. Compare this to the team Favre walked into with the Packers, who were 4-12. Rodgers certainly benefited from a team that had some talent. the talent around him is even better than when I was there. I think this is true as well. With the exception of maybe the 1996 super bowl team, this is the most talented Packers team in the last 20 years. And I think the core of that talent is still around from when Favre was there (and they've only gotten better since, thank you TT). Favre even said before the 2007 season that the team was the most talented he had been on. “[Rodgers has] tremendous talent, he’s very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right. There is a lot of documented evidence of QBs coming in and learning under veteran QBs. I think Rodgers is no different. It only helped him to be actively involved on the sidelines while a future hall of fame QB was out running the offense. So I’m really kind of surprised it took him so long. Ok, the wording here might be iffy, but what is the right thing to say "I'm shocked he ended up being this good"? I personally think if anything, it was a compliment to Rodgers being that good. You could hear this and think "man, Favre's a real dick". Or, you could take it as Favre expressing how impressed he was with Rodgers' abilities that maybe he truly was surprised that it took him three years. Anyway, this is really the only statement I can see in anything Favre said that could even remotely be taken as an insult, and it seems like a big stretch at that. It's hard to deny the talent of Rodgers, and I hardly think Favre did that. Couple all of my analysis with what Greg Jennings said and I think my point is well supported: Jennings: I think it can be skewed either way, but I don't believe that it was an insult...What he said, it's true. We feel like we should have done it a little sooner...knowing Brett, knowing the competitive guy he is, he's never really gonna to give it all up to Aaron. I don't think he should, because I don't think Aaron would give it up to him, trust me. Jennings' comments So a guy that played with both Favre and Rodgers gives props to both. |

I don't think Aaron will even hear the comments over the din of all the swooning from the media. I thought the same thing. You can take that comment as "[He's so good] I'm surprised it took this long." or "I'm surprised it took this long [because the putz should have won it 3 years ago with that team]" and everyone assumes the worst. |

Man, my Eagles are 1-4 .......Whats really goin' on? With all that talent on the team I seriously expected to have maybe 4 losses on the whole season not in the first 5 weeks. Right now it seems like a long shot but I pray we can pull something out our a** and win the rest of our division games, we got 2 against the Redskins 2 against the Cowboys and 1 more against the Giants..........We really do need some |

Cardinals 10 @ Vikings 34
Sarah
Is there really anything to say at this point? I have it on good authority that Fitzgerald is happy to be coming back to Minnesota for a game.Jeremy
Its time for Ponder. I've felt that way for a couple weeks, not because I thought he'd be an upgrade over McNabb, but because there's no reason not to. As of now I'm no longer convinced Ponder wouldn't be a lateral move, if not an improvement.Jon
I'll start by noting that I don't think McNabb is the problem. But that said, you can pencil me in on the "Christian Ponder should be starting" side of the argument. For one, I fail to see McNabb doing enough in the passing game to say he can't be replaced. It's true the Vikings don't have a good offensive line and don't have a strong receiving corps, and the qb will struggle because of that. But I'm not seeing where McNabb's abilities are overcoming any of that, at least to any significant degree. On the other hand, Ponder can run. He will get first downs with his legs that McNabb can't or won't or just isn't getting. Ponder might throw more interceptions than McNabb, but Donovan has missed out on interceptions in large part to being nowhere near anyone with some of his throws. Not throw-aways, actual pass attempts that are just not in the same vicinity as the receiver or the defender. Helps the Vikings limit takeaways, yes, but also keeps them off the scoreboard.
Finally, if Ponder plays and has some success, it's something to be built upon for next year, or, if a million things break correctly, could lead the Vikings to the playoffs. If he does terribly, the Vikings can choose someone like Andrew Luck with the good draft pick they'll get.
