Packers 16 @ Jaguars 20 |
SarahMeh. What a huge disappointment, can't say enough bad things about the team that broke my heart.Edit: In the end, i'm picking the Packers, but not with much conviction.
JeremyIt's hard to say who has been the more disappointing team this year. The Packers elimination number is 1.
MattDavid Garrard, meet Trent Green.
JonI've said it off the site, but I'm not sure I've mentioned it here. I think Jacksonville is the most depressing and unimpressive team I've watched this season. I think being a Jaguars fan has to be among the most painful fan experiences this year. And not just in a "we were supposed to be good" kind of way. Just in a "we're not playing well" kind of way. |
Vikings 35 @ Cardinals 14 |
SarahNow this game takes me back to a happier time in my life.
JeremyThe Vikings magic number is 2. With 3 weeks left it would be awfully hard to blow this, so why not start blowing it at the site where they put the finishing touches on one of their most epic meltdowns? Over/under on the number if times we'll see the Nate Poole catch and/or hear Paul Allen yell TOUCHDOWN!!! NOOO! NO! is 65.
MattT-Jac for MVP!!!! | |
JonWhy schedule a game during a great nap time? |
Giants 8 @ Cowboys 20 |
SarahI think I'm picking a lot of upsets this week. Not because I'm going for the upset, but because I feel like the underdogs are going to win some games.
JeremyHaven't the Giants and Cowboys played each other like 5 times this season? I swear they have.
MattI don't care about the NFC East anymore.
JonI've said it before. NFL wide receivers seem to be in a competition to out-pathetic each other. They are continually one upping each other in their disgusting behavior. But, as usual, T.O. likes to get the last word. |
Browns 10 @ Eagles 30 |
SarahDo we have to watch this? Thank goodness for Chuck and to a waaaaay lesser extent, Heroes. Seriously, what's with the sucks?
JeremyNow this is more like the MNF we've come to know and love.
MattThis game will suck.
JonHey look, a brown eagle. |

Want to know something strange? I don't want to start counting chickens before they hatch, but there are a number of scenarios that have the Vikings actually getting a bye in the first round of the playoffs, and they aren't terribly far-fetched, and don't even necessarily have the Vikings winning out. I'm not making any sort of statement/prediction here. I just find it funny that, although 3 weeks is a decent chunk of a 16 game season, there are a number of teams that could wind up anywhere from the #1 and #2 seeds to 5th in line to make the playoffs. |

I disagree. Even though Peter had been told to shoot his father in the back of the head, Peter watches Sylar shoot him in the forehead and then does nothing to finish the job. And why does Sylar kill Elle (is that her name? I don't even know.)? He already has her power through other means and doesn't need to kill her. Nothing makes sense, everyone does the opposite of what they would've done in season 1. |

But if they knew months ahead of time that they will be suspended for the first 4 games of next year, the team can plan for that which is a huge advantage compared to if the suspensions happened now. |

Nothing makes sense, everyone does the opposite of what they would've done in season 1. People screw up all the time, and I'm sure Peter was shocked by Sylar showing up. And I forget exactly how it ended but did they ever show Peter leaving the room yet? Maybe next episode starts with him trying to finish it. In the past, Sylar killed for knowledge not power. Sylar felt relief when his powers were gone and thought that maybe he and Elle could have a normal life. Then they get their powers back, Noah plants doubt in his mind by saying that he isn't really a Petrelli and reminding him/Elle that Sylar killed Elle's father, and telling him that everyone is just jerking him around trying to get him to be their puppet, which reminds him of how Elle was instrumental in turning him into a monster in the first place and he decides to embrace that part of him and do whatever he pleases instead of always taking commands from others, starting with killing Elle and then moving on to Arthur. I think one of the major themes of the show is that life is not always black and white, good guys vs bad guys, and numerous characters have switched from "good" to "bad" and back, so it follows that they are not necessarily acting the way the you thought that would after only season 1. I watch and enjoy Chuck as well, but that show is utterly more predictable and shallow (maybe shallow is too harsh, how about feel-goodish) than Heroes. |

Ok, I watched some of the episode again, the bullet pretty clearly blows out the back of Arthur's head and they show him laying in a substantial pool of blood, plus Peter hasn't been shown leaving him yet. I think some of the scenes with Hiro in this one were more iffy. It was annoying that he was within arm's length of Claire and didn't just teleport as soon as he heard Arthur's voice on the rooftop. And it was totally impossible for him to end up hanging on to that pole. Go Arizona! |

Packers are without a leader. This is a pretty good explanation about what exactly is missing from the Packers this season. The fact that the Packers have been so close to winning most of the games they ended up losing is a pretty glaring indicator that there is something missing beyond Xs and Os. If Rodgers is doing his job physically on the field, he has yet to obtain that X Factor where teammates start playing for him, not wanting to let him down. |

I would like to state that this loss, like most of the other losses, is primarily the fault of the coaching. I feel like McCarthy refuses to take off the special gloves when it comes to letting Rodgers go, and then when the NEED it at the end Rodgers doesn't come through. Too many times the Packers seemed to have some offensive momentum only to run Ryan Grant into the line two straight times and end up with a third and long. The most glaring in my opinion was in the 2nd qtr when the Packers had a first and goal on the 10 yard line. Run up the middle for 2 yards....run up the middle for 3 yards....Now Aaron, we need to you come through on this play, because we are only giving you one chance. Rodgers has played well this season, and it actually seems like the cautious play calling could have the effects of Rodgers not feeling like he is an adequate QB. I think that from a confidence standpoint, Rodgers seems pretty stable. If he makes some mistakes, he doesn't seem like the type of guy who is going to struggle because of it; he seems like a guy who can roll with the punches and make some good plays. However, the adverse of that is never letting the guy air it out until the final two minutes, then put everything on his shoulders, he doesn't come through, the fans get on his back, the press gets on his back, now you have a QB that is dying to be given a longer leash but is reigned in until it's too late. |

That's what I've been saying about the play calling since like week 5. They're playing not to lose instead of to win, and it's causing them to lose. They would've never been in so many make or stop a game ending drive situations if they would've put away teams earlier on in the game. |

Jeremy Wrote - 11/30/2008 @ 03:24:13 PM Not that I'm a coach, but I don't understand the Woodson move to safety. The man has been lights out at corner this year. The Vikings gameplan vs the Packers was just to concede that Bernard Berrian was a lost cause for a week. I stand by my perplexity. The Packers have given up 276.3 yards per game passing since moving Woodson. They gave up 187.2 with Woodson covering the opponent's go-to-guy. More importantly than the yards even is that teams seem to move the ball at will when it means the most. (In other words, when they know the other team has to pass is when they seem to be the worst at defending it.) Though, I think this game really came down to that offensive miscue on like the 4 yard line where the Packers failed to line up properly, despite having a timeout to sort everything out. |

Yeah, it was pretty sweet. He wasn't asked to do much, but when he had to make a throw it was perfect. It's hard to judge off one game where we had a big lead from the get go, but people completely wrote him off after only 2 games, so perhaps it's time to declare QB controversy in Minny. If we win next week, and Carolina locks up the 1 seed against the Giants, then the Vikes-Giants final game is for a bye in the playoffs. (And if Carolina loses the Giants have nothing to play for, so the Vikings would have to beat a partially resting team and hope Carolina loses at New Orleans). Neither of those scenarios is terribly far fetched and if T-Jack gets us there I don't see how you can go back to Gus. I appreciate what Gus has done, but if Tjack finishes the season he will have started 5 of our toughest games, which you'd also have to factor in. Fun fact: there's a decent chance that the Vikings potentially play Falcons, Giants, Falcons, Giants in a 4 week span. |

Looking back on it, it was probably the right move to bench Jackson after the 0-2 start because it looks like he has learned a little bit from his time on the bench. But it is amazing how well he can do when his receivers actually catch passes and the running game is working. I think we will see Childress play the "Gus is not 100%" card for at least the next game. The Vikings are in the same scenario as last season, win at home in week 16 and your in. They couldn't do it last year, lets hope this team, which is much better can. Don't want to have to depend on the Packers beating the Bears next monday night. |

Yeah, it's definitely not a done deal. Chicago finishes against the Packers and Houston, which are two winnable games and we have a couple tuffys. The good thing is we're no longer in a "division or nothing" situation, at least as far as I can tell. Though, to not win the division would mean we lost both our games, which most likely would mean we would be out of the wildcard too, but you never know. Alex Wrote - Today @ 01:09:45 PM Jeremy Wrote - Today @ 10:55:21 AM Though, I think this game really came down to that offensive miscue on like the 4 yard line where the Packers failed to line up properly, despite having a timeout to sort everything out. Not calling a timeout there was crazy stupid. Yeah, I actually thought the only reason they didn't is because they had just called a timeout. But looking at the play by play on espn.com it looks like it was actually JAX that called the timeout, which, as you said, makes the fact that the Packers didn't call timeout baffling. |

Actually, it looks like it would be pretty hard/impossible for the Vikings to get in with a wild card. Losing to Atlanta would help them out. Tampa has games against SD and Oak. Philly and Dallas play each other. http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/nfcstandings.html |

Scott Wrote - 12/13/2008 @ 03:17:25 PM Just for the record, I'm going to 0 nut (grinch) any comment about Heros on this football thread. We have rules people! On order to enforce these "rules" they should be posted somewhere. I don't disagree with you, just... you know... we have a right to know what they are. |

There really aren't any rules, but it could be debated whether or not anyone has a "right" to know them, were there some rules.

I'm going to the Lions game. I'll post pictures...most likely of us losing. That is my luck. That was a good post by Scott. |

Did any of you watch the Ravens/Steelers game last week? Do you think the Refs blew the game? |

I thought they did because they didn't give a good explanation at the time of the play (but explained later that the ball did go into the endzone). It's hard to say if the ball did cross the goal line and since the call was that it was short, I think it should've stayed that way. |

I saw a freeze-frame that looked pretty much like a touchdown, I was convinced. |

Well, the rule is supposed to be that the call on the field stands unless the replay shows something undeniable, so given that I don't see how you make a call. I think this rule is stupid. The call should be thrown out and the replay should be looked at and just ruled whatever is most likely. I believe that is what happened here, as do many NFL commentators. So I guess it depends how you look at it. The ref's goal should be to get the call right, period, however the "rule" is that the replays have to be 110% conclusive to overturn a call, which this obviously wasn't. |

I think the kick is overblown, at least in terms of things that went wrong. That kick was to put us up 10, putting the game out of reach barring a miracle, it wasn't missed with the Vikes down 1 with 5 seconds left, like I think some people picture it. (Also, it just barely missed.) Robert Griffith dropped an easy interception in the endzone. Robert Smith kept running out of bounds when we were trying to burn the clock. The fumble right before half gave them a cheap 7 and got them mentally back into it. Even after Gary missed we still had to give up a TD, then we elected to kneel on a minute or so of regulation time, and blow what felt like 432 chances in OT. But still, "damn" indeed. Damn that Rashard Tarkington. |

What I distinctly remember about that game was before it started, I said that if the Falcons can score on their opening posession they would win. I did not at all think they were going to, nor did I think the Falcons defense was any match for the Vikings offense, but they did, and they were, and the Falcons won. So I made what I thought was a pretty bold prediction and it came true. |

Doesn't the team that scores first win like 70% of NFL games? Found one source, though maybe not most reliable but I'm pretty sure I've seen this elsewhere as well. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-093005oates,1,500987.story I distinctly remember how hilarious it was when Anderson missed his first kick of the year. |

The NFC North is dead to me. Well, ok not quite, but I feel like being dramatic.Jeremy
So far the Nutcan Elite has gone somewhere to watch every Thursday night game, except for Thanksgiving. The games have been generally pretty crappy, and we haven't been staying for the entire game. It's safe to say we'll want to watch this one. If the Bears lose the Vikings could win the division on Sunday.Matt
This might just be a decent Thursday Night game for once.Jon
New Orleans on the road? Not so Super.
