JeremyAdrian should be back for this one. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm not a doctor, and they say he'll be fine, but I worry something worse might happen.
MattPlaying A-Pete this soon after his injury seems stupid to me.
SarahOne team is going up up up and one team is falling fast. Both are going nowhere fast, dontcha think? In the end only one team wins the Super Bowl, so at some point do you just start working towards a better draft pick? NEVER!
JonI think this will be a fun game. Like last time they played. It was entertaining. I watched it in a bar. Because I couldn't get it at home. We actually couldn't even watch it in either of our top two choices of sports bars. |
Bengals 10 @ Steelers 24 |
JeremyThink we might see 6 points in this one?
MattHines Ward for MVP!!!! Steelers 42 - Bengals 26.
SarahWhat a rough game Monday night. The Bengals have a high power offense, but the Steeler's D is tough. I think Big Ben will make a comeback and get a win.
JonI think this is a tough week for picks. I mean, not this game necessarily, but I wouldn't be surpried if Cincinnati did win. But I think other games could be surprising. |
Patriots 27 @ Ravens 24 |
MattBelichick sucks. | |
JeremyEveryone else is all excited because the "blueprint" on how to beat the Pats is out there. The way I see it all the Eagles game did is solidify everything they've been talking about. "Humble pie" stops meaning anything if you win every game by 50. Anyone who thought they ran up the score before be warned, almost losing will ratchet up their "go for the jugular early" attitude 10 fold.
SarahLet's see if the blueprint can become a structure.
JonI feel a bit let down by the Eagles. Just a bit. But I'm also happy that they broke up the monotony for a bit. |

In looking forward to Week 13 (Thursday!) I have to say that the Packers need to put crazy pressure on Romo, and perhaps a good ol fashioned double team on TO. This would force them to run the ball, but I don't know offhand if that would be positive or a negative (stat guy, help me on this one pls). Looking forward with nervous anticipation- a loss this week would place us at 10-2, which is still really good. It would only solidify our place as #2 behind the Cowboys, which is where most put us anyway. A win would put us at 11-1, and at #1 in front of Dallas- and 3-4 games above TB, Seattle, NYG, all of the Wild Card teams. A win would make us all happy- too bad this is one of the Biggest of the year, and none of us can watch it without the ungodly NFL Network. I'll be pubbing it myself. |

I don't know. The Packers lost to the Bears by essentially conceding at least a 25 yard return on every kick and punt. I think you punt to him and just don't psych yourself out. Every other punt returner in the league is practically tackled as they catch the ball, and end up fair catching like half of the punts, somehow Devin Hester gets 15 yards to work with on almost every punt sent his way. There's more going on then Hester being awesome. Either the Bears blocking is outstanding, or teams scheme too much and try to get too cute. I think teams "stay back" to "play it safe" against good punt returners, but ultimately "staying back" is the problem.

The Bears often send a wedge back right before the snap to block for Hester. They did that on the last punt of the game against Denver. Because this Packer game is getting almost no hype I don't feel guilty saying this. While this is just another regular season game and a loss really won't "hurt" them that much, I am going to go out and say that this is probably the most important regular season game for the franchise in close to 10 years. Only once since 1997 have the Packers been contending for home field advantage this late in the season. Also, to go into Dallas and win, a place where Favre has never won, would be such a boost for the youngest team in the NFL, I imagine that they would feel unstoppable after such a feat. I know players, coaches and teams always say things like "we're taking every game one at a time," and they probably mean it most of the time. But I'd be hard pressed to believe that most of the players on the Packers team aren't a little more pumped for this game than they have been all season. |

Some team is going to silent audible into a fake punt if the Bears keep that up and it will be the easiest fake punt in the history of the NFL. Six down defensive lineman to cover the whole team? Please. |

That was a bad pass interference call. The receiver just slowed down so the DB would run into him. He made no attempt to even catch the ball that was 5 yards further down the field. |

I called this place called Champps at around noon today, put my name on "the list" even though they don't do reservations. Get there, our friend said "Oh no, 25 groups on the list!" So I walk up, and get sat immediately. Good game Carlos. Last play of the 3rd the girls say "oh no its almost ten! we have to go NOW!" I get to watch the rest of the game on nfl.com's play by play text on the laptop. I lose. |

Some random thoughts: We played awful and still only lost by 10. When we play again in January, with Woodson and KGB and a thinking Favre, we have a great shot. BTW, what the hell was wrong with Harris???? Our defense let them throw all night long. I hope Favre is ok. A-Rod made some silly mistakes, but did ok for himself. (still don't like him) I'm just not impressed with the Cowboys, they should've beaten us by 30 points or something. The refs were not the best. One ref called the int that Harris had, the other called that forward progress had been stopped, etc etc. A lot of things were just very inconsistent with the refs. Oh and why didn't we stick with what we've been doing all year? Not cool. When Rodgers came in, we went back to it and it started working. |

That T.O. call was one of the worst calls I've seen in a long time. You could make up a lot of things in that position, but saying his forward progress was stopped is about the last thing you'd think the ref would try to pull. What followed is one of my big pet peeves with coaches: The "protest" challenge over something meaningless because you can't challenge what you really want to. Every team needs to have a person in charge of taking the flag away from the head coach when he gets in an intractable argument with the refs. There was a critical first down the Packers missed late by the length of an eyelash that they appeared to make during "live action" (which granted, could have been someone's elbow or something) that they couldn't challenge because they challenged if a 12 yard catch like 2 plays into the game was really a catch. When it was all said and done this game should have been like 50-7, yet the Packers inexplicably hung around. You could argue that getting some key players healthy would make a difference, but you could also point out that A-Rod looked legendary compared to the inexplicable turd sandwich QB4 served up before his untimely exit. Plus the Cowboys didn't move up and down the field because they took advantage of Woodson's replacement. Al Harris looked just as lost as anyone out there. The Cowboys seemed to be 10 times the team tonight, but the final score being what is was it's hard to say would would happen in the playoffs. |

Yea.... you guys had the same thoughts... i would quote Jeremy and sarah but comments tooo big... anyway i think the refs made some really lousy calls.... i mean talk about home field advantage...Harris was dissapointing i did not see the preformance i was expecting... hopefully favre will do his best win all his games... and possible Dallas may take a blow to Detroit, and washington.... which are both away games for them. Anyway considering i live in Cowboy country there are very few packers much less in my school... i think there are 3... the rest are cowboys... and boy will i be dished some dirt today =|.......... i was dissapointed with Favre's playing i really was it seemed to me that McCarthy kept wanting to use the cowboys weakness by spreading them and going long...but i think that if they would have aimed at their strength going into this game... it seems to me that maybe they wouldnt have gotten a 17 point defict and maybe won the game... difference i see between a-rod and favre was the favre went long... a-rod went short and slant.I hope that these teams do have a rematch and when they do i hope its in Green Bay and i hope we have no Major injuries. So we could show the world and the dallas cowboys the true wrath of the Green Bay Packers. |

First off, just in case Rodgers actually does turn into someone who needs to be mentioned more than once a year, he needs a new nickname. A-Rod is currently in use (nicknames can be reused once previous owner is out of the spotlight, like LT). I propose AA-Rod as in "double A" Rod. Works especially well while he's still a benchwarmer. And I'm now convinced he can be good. Maybe it was just fun to watch a Packers QB that could actually run 8 yards for a first down and keep the pass rush a little more honest because of the scramble threat. I think that's why he started getting more time to throw than Favre was. Speaking of Favre, yikes is all I can say. The first long throw on the 3rd and 1ish, Driver actually should have caught the pass for a touchdown, he just wiffed. After that though, there's really no words to explain what was going on with the play calling (questionable) and Favre's decision making (return of 2005!). Would KGB really have helped? I doubt it. He's not running through or around any of those lineman because they're too big. Bottom line here is the Packers don't have a real good blitzing LB. Would ChuckWood have helped? No doubt. I believe I picked Bubba as my new personal crusade once Ferguson was gone, but since he's pretty much been a non-issue Bush has been the bane of my existence this season. The only time I really saw Harris screw up was on the 3 and forever where he left Crayton wide open. If Woodson was out there, one of those 2 could've picked up TO everytime without having to run around as much before the play. And lastly I agree with Jeremy on the challege saga. Which is why coaches shouldn't have to challenge in the first place. |

Anyway, now that the excitement is over my realization of the update, on to the game. I agree with Alex (second time) that A-Rod needs a new nickname. Apparently, thats what they always have called him. I did a little research and couldn't find any college nicknames etc. I figured we would lose the game as soon as I heard KGB and Woodson were out. Yes Alex, KGB would have helped. Half the reason the Packers defense is so solid is our ability to rotate 8 guys throughout the game. By the middle of the third quarter the opposing team starts to wear down. We were down to 5 last night. KGB would have helped. Also, the Cowboys left tackle is amazing, however, his weakness is the initial speed move. KGB could have had a field day. They elaborated on that point last night. Chuck would have certainly helped as well. Al Harris can't run back and forth all day to line up on Owens. Having Woodson would have given Al an easier time in what looked to by a very tired corner in the fourth quarter. We have plenty of good blitzing LB's. The problem is that we don't blitz. We played a zone most of the game dropping the backers. Once again if Woodson is back in there, we are playing man and getting a little more pressure. Favre injury and all I really think this game came down to a couple of plays. 1. 3-19 2. Terrible call and the int/fumble should have been to Harris. Momentum wins football games. |

We just signed Craig Nall, I guess we didn't want Ruvell Martin to be our emergency QB when A-Rod goes down with a foot injury. |

I think that if it were not for some of the lousy penalties called in the dallas game.... i think that the packers may have been a little closer to winning perhaps even won the game.... 2 plays stood out the first Dallas play that should have been an Al Harris int.... and then the pass interference which let to a cowboy td.....i mean we made some mistakes but i know deep down inside the cowboys are not better than the packers... and once i see the cowboys beating the packers with all of the Good players in... then i will admit it.... but until then lets just wait for the NFC Championship..... |

I have to laugh. During the Packers/Cowboys game, Chris Collinsworth was speaking of the different players for the Cowboys and how affective they are. At one point he said "Demarcus Ware is a big tool". Eventhough it was meant to be a compliment to the Cowboys, my wife and I took the referrence as any true Green Bay fan would and laughed our asses off! |

We all noticed that too, I don't think you had to be a Packer fan to pick up on it. I believe he actually said that he was "such a tool" with all the same cadence and emphasis on the words as if you were using it as an insult.

Minnesota got hosed! Sure they won by 32 and everyone has now jumped on the bandwagon, but here's what no on is pointing out. The refs and Arizona have combined to screw the Vikings one more time. In the last seconds of the Cleveland game agains Arizona, the refs or really just one ref probably, ruled that Kellen Winslow Jr. would NOT have landed in bounds if the defenders hadn't pushed him out. Forget that this rule is in the top 10 most bogus rules in football, I think it was a bad call. Arizona wins. Now I think they are the favorites to get the last playoff spot due to an easier schedule than the Vikings have, plus I think they have the tiebreaker at least at this point. Everyone is trying to be the loudest to claim that the Vikings are going to do it, but Arizona plays the Falcons and the Rams. At home. They also play Seattle, yes and New Orleans, but Arizona has to screw up to finish any worse than 8-8 now. Yeah the Vikings get SanFrancisco next week, but the Redskins, Bears, and Broncos all fall into that capable of beating anyone category despite the fact that I think they all have losing records or close to it. Anyway, the point is that, Browns game really killed my buzz. |

The Ravens went out of their way to lose that game. Calling a timeout after they had stuffed the Patriots on 4th down - negating the 4th down. Penalty after penalty, giving the Patriots chance after chance on 4th down. ARGH! Then throwing the hail mary at the end and missing the end zone by 2 yards. I hate the Patriots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and what was with Harrison talking smack to Billick? Billick wasn't on the field. That was just stupid. Put a jersey on. |

The Giants defense could get to Brady and make him rush the pass or sack him, but their offense is well below par. Good defense with poor offensive support won't beat the Pats. I don't see anyone beating them in the regular season. |

The Steelers have a pretty good shot, and the Giants have 100 times the offense the Raven have. I think those could be close games, given the Patriots struggled against two mediocre teams in a row with backup QBs in. |

All I know is Brady and Moss did enough to keep me from having to bring in donuts at work this week. w00t!! Also I love how the Patriots answer dumb questions with obvious answers. made up example: Reporter - "So did the 20 mph wind affect the passing game at all?" Brady - "Yep" The end. |

I've noticed that to. I don't know what to think half the time because they sound like jerks answering questions I can't stand. I loathe when players are asked to "talk" the reporter "through the play." "Uh....the coach signaled the play in, I ran the route the play called for, the QB threw me the ball." Those questions still aren't as bad as the dumbass questions after the game. |

I don't really care.Jeremy
It's kind of surprising to me how little play this game is getting. You would think a game like this would have been the talk of the last few weeks. In all seriousness I see the cable companies' point that they should be able to offer the NFL Network only to people who want it. However, at the same time they need to stop talking like the only two choices are a) if someone wants the NFL network they can buy the $10 a month sports package or b) everyone gets it and everyone's bill goes up $10. They could just add it, I'm sure their profit margin is ridiculous to begin with.Sarah
It all comes down to this. Don't you hate over analyzing useless trivia? Favre is 0-something at Dallas, therefore he can't win on Thursday. But, he's gotten such a better record at domes since 2002. Something's gotta give. Or maybe it's just any given Sunday (Thursday) and it's just that team's day. I'm glad I get to see the game, that's favre sure.Jon
Instead of giving my take on how they matchup, I'll talk about the whole NFL network thing. Does it suck? yeah. Boo hoo. You know who has to watch their favorite team's games (yes, multiples games) in sports bars? Me. And Matt. And often Jeremy. Vikings and Twins games. You know who else? Countless other people who can't get their chosen games on their local tv. Again, yeah it sucks, but it's not like the game is completely inaccessible. Suck it up and spend a few hours somewhere outside of your house.
