JeremyIs it just me or have we not heard about TO in a while?
MattOnly about three and a half months until Baseball Opening Day.
JonIf we find out five years from now that field turf causes cancer, the NFL will look really dumb. Seriously does anyone even play on grass anymore? I know this is in a dome, but have you noticed how non-dome stadiums have field turf now? I'm not one of those, "football isn't real unless it's played on grass, blah...blah" people. I don't think it's a terrible thing. I just think that it's often aesthetically less appealing. Say what you want about Astroturf, but those were some clean lines. And it was bright. It was like playing on the surface of a new tennis ball. A giant tennis ball obviously.I look at this field turf and all I can think of is that it looks like a jumbled mess of synthetic material and rubber pellets. I keep waiting for someone to get their leg caught in it like a comb sticking in tangled hair. My knee almost hurts just thinking about that injury. Now is the time where all the packer fans comment on how their field is great and it's football the way it "should" be played whatever that means.
SarahRomo can suck it up like the rest of 'em |
Lions 9 @ Packers 17 |
JeremyI keep trying to convince myself the Lions don't suck. But they do....they do indeed.
MattBoth these teams suck. As does Football.
JonThe Packers would probably have a tougher time beating the Seibu Lions. Without Matsuzaka.
SarahI set up a trust so I will bypass the inheritance tax. |
Jets 26 @ Vikings 13 |
JeremyJ E T S JETS JETS JETS. The Vikings are still in the running for the playoffs. That doesn't really mean a lot. Can't they just be good or suck enough to get a great pick? They've been so mediocre for so long.
MattPlaying Artose Pinner against the Lions seemed to work... This week we should start Brooks Bollinger at QB. Or RB, whatever works.
JonThe Vikings have to avoid an AFC beatdown this week. If they do, here's a scenario for you, with a little help from Mike & Mike in the morning. The Vikings win their last three games because all the teams they play are beatable. They get the 6 seed which would likely place them against Seattle at Seattle. They beat them earlier this year there and so they win again and face the Bears, who they've done as well against as any team that's lost to them. Maybe not the Cardinals. So look for the Vikings in the NFC championship game. This was obviously thought up by someone who disregards the fact that this Viking team is a classic case of a team who can't win three games in a row even if it's against an inferior opponent.
SarahAnd this is your opinion of me? My faults by this calculation are heavy indeed. But perhaps these offences might have been overlooked had not your pride been hurt by the honest confession of the scruples which have long prevented my forming any serious design on you. Had I concealed my struggles and flattered you, but disguise of every sort is my abhorence. Nor am I ashamed of the feelings I related, they were natural and just. Did you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your connections, to congratulate myself on the hope of relations who's condition in life is so decidedly below my own? |

Jon, the Packers are switching to a hybrid type field next year. Yup, even the Packers are selling out. It's not completely fake though, the grass is basically reinforced with mesh and some other non-natural parts. Especially for teams that play in cold weather (Lambeau, for example), the fields get resodded at least once a year, maybe more. I guess it's just a huge hassle and rather costly. |

Natural grass roots intertwine with the artificial grass fibres. This is pretty much the extent of it. |

Going back to what Jon said about astroturf though, astro turf was dangerous. In Texas Stadium for example, a packer assistant coach was once knocked down and received a concussion after his head bounced off the 1/4 in of turf, 1/4 in of rubber, and solid concrete base that most of the older artifical turf surfaces were made of. And talking about bounce, remember watching baseballs actually pick up speed on a bounce at the Metrodome? A baseball is not supposed to speed up on a short hop to the shortstop. I won't go as far as saying "football isn't real unless it's played on grass, blah...blah", but as revolutionary as astroturf was, it had its day and the sporting world is better off now that it is being phased out with the new, more body-friendly surfaces like what the Seahawks, Lions, or even Badgers use.

Ok, so I'm watching the dvd Legends of Lambeau Field. It turns out, Brett Favre's first game that he played in as a Packer after Don Majkowski got hurt was September 11, 1992. Does it seem weird that Favre's career started on September 11? Probably just a coincidence. |

I think the Favre haters hate Favre more than the Favre lovers love Favre. Seriously, quit your whining, all those who think Favre is apparently an embarrasment to football. |

I know. I am obviously the least Favre hater of all. But I started Favre over Ron Mexico in one of my fantasy leagues and this is how he treats me! |

I started Hasselbeck over Vick this week. What a joke. I hate vick. He does good when I sit him, and only ok when I play him. |

By the way, the reason most people "hate Favre" is exactly because of what that article is about. |

I have nothing witty to say here.Jon
San Francisco?? Seattle?? This has to be like the trendiest game ever. This game is so cutting edge we midwesterners probably won't even understand it. This game should have its own myspace page.Sarah
