Patriots 13 @ Broncos 27 |
JeremyIf anyone read Bill Simmon's rules of gambling he says never bet on the team that looks so good around playoff time no one can think rationally about them. Well that's the Patriots.
MattI'll go with Denver.
JonPatriots are on fire! Are they really? Kind of. They beat the Tampa Bay and the Jaguars. But the rest of the games, they should have won. They did play in arguably the worst division in football. Denver meanwhile, played iun arguably the toughest and still won 13 games. And they're at home.
SarahLike I said last week, gotta go with the defending champions until they lose, then they won't be an option anymore. |
Steelers 21 @ Colts 18 |
JeremyGo Pittsburgh Go! I really don't think they'll win but one can hope.
MattColts by 17. | |
JonIndianapolis is pretty good.
SarahI just don't know, Pittsburgh is a tough team. I'm gonna go with Indy though because they can score points and they have a strong defense. They've got the whole kit and caboodle. |
Panthers 29 @ Bears 21 |
JeremyRex Grossman will start like his 8th game in 3 years. That's good production.
MattIf I were Lovie Smith, I'd save Grossman for the Super Bowl.
JonI remember watching this game the first time. I think it was during the Viking bye week. Chicago pretty much dominated as much as you can dominate a 13-3 game. Carolina is playing well but that probably just means they'll lose cause that's what they do these days, isn't it?
SarahI don't have much faith in Chicago, but I don't want to pick against them either. |

I didn't change it, and so this might look like hedging my bet so to speak, but I actually thought after I made my pick about how much I actually like Washington over Seattle. Seattle really played some bad teams. |

I did Sarahs picks because she fell asleep and has to go in early tomorrow and will make it home just before gametime. So she'll change them around then if she wants. |

Maybe seattle thinks that Jon played some bad teams. But to support Jon's point, the Seahawks did lose to the Packers, and thus don't belong in the playoffs. So I think the Redskins will have a pretty good chance. |

Trivia for Jeremy to research: Have all 4 road teams ever won in either the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs? |

And Jon wins. I didn't pick teams I though would win, I picked the opposite of what I thought Jon would because that was the only way to get back in it. |

WHAT? Jon picked against the Patriots? Well, liking a dynasty and thinking they are going to win are 2 different things I guess. |

Steve Smith for President! I'm way more excited for 24 than I have been for any of these playoff games. |

I am awesome... but seriously.... that Steelers/Colts game. Wowza bagowza. I thought it was over and Jerome was just going in for the sure thing. Everyone in the room jumped up in disbelief when we saw that he had fumbled and then the tackle by Rothelisberger, and then omg sure thing Vanderjagt misses it, which i mean come on, who didn't see that coming? The steelers kept getting screw job after screw job during the game and then it looked like they were going to lose the game because sure thing Bettis fumbled at like the one, and wow it was just one of the better play off games. I mean, most parts weren't that great, but some parts were. I'm glad the Steelers won, I was rooting for Dungy, but I don't like the other Colts, and I do like the Steelers and Cowher except for that long haired dude. I am also glad Carolina won, which just proves my season long theory that the Bears do suck. Overall, a good weekend, happy with the results, although I wish the Redskins would've won. |

Cause then you could've gone 0-4. |

I was rooting for the Bears. I might be wrong, but I don't think they've won a playoff game since superbowl 20. I want Manning to get a ring. I wonder what the future of Dungy is. Can't seem to win the big ones. He's had some pretty good teams too. He's probably safe, but it has to make you think. Ya know only 1 dome team has ever won a Super Bowl. What should the Colts do? Get an outdoor stadium. If football was meant to be played indoors, Lambeau would come equiped with a roof. If the Colts would have won the game, that call to take away the Steelers interception with about 6:00 left would have gone down as the worst call in the history of the playoffs. By the logic of the refs, a player could catch a ball, roll 30 yards downfield and then fumble it and it would be an incomplete pass. Now who's to say Bettis wouldn't have fumbled the ball on the next play anyway, but still. That would have had some serious backlash for sure if the game would have turned out different. |

But are those the rules? I mean it may be a dumb rule but that doesn't mean that the refs messed up if that is the rule. I actually thought there were bad calls against both teams, which isn't necessarily any good, but I didn't come away with the feeling that the Colts were getting a much better deal on the bad reffing. But maybe I'm in the minority. |

I agree that it might just be a stupid rule. If so it'll be changed and from now on anytime a player rolls during a catch announcers can harken back to this game and retell the story, just like the rams/tampa bay game. We get it already, he had 100% control and a part of the ball happened to hit the ground. So now if the QB were to fake a throw, and not put the ball in a shoe box, but then roll around with the ball and fumble would the rolling rule override the tuck rule? Nice to see Clint rebounded from last weeks dismal performance. Someone get on AIM, I'm bored. |

A bad call like missing an obvious penalty or a catch that probably hit the ground are different from a call where a player literally had control of the ball for several seconds and then lost control. If the guy would have been touched by a defender immediately, he would have been down and it would have been a interception. So if it is the rule, then that rule has to be changed. Like I said, by that logic, a player could catch a ball, roll 30 yards down field, and then lose control and it would be no catch. On the other side, Joey Porter said that the refs were cheating the Steelers. He said that the refs wanted Manning to win that game, and they were going to do anything they could to make that happen. Ok, I don't buy that. One bad call, even if it turns out to be the worst call in the history of pro football, does not in any way shape or form suggest some sort of conspiracy for or against a team. (Now, in a 7 game playoff NBA series like the Bucks and 76ers in 2002 where the fouls were almost 3-1 against the Bucks, that's evidence for a fix.) |

Yeah, it's at best a horrible rule and at worst a total screw job. There was also a horrible no-call pass interference that would have gained the Steelers a huge chunk of field and put them inside the 20. I don't necessarily think it's what went on here but I don't think either that the concept of a league preferring one team over another because of a bigger market or better story is that absurd. In the playoffs a couple years ago the Timberwolves were giving the Lakers a run for their money, until a series of very questionable calls (including a completely phantom foul on Kobe Bryant resulting in a 5 point play) won the Lakers the game. You had a small market team vs a huge market, very popular, Shaq-Kobe led, headline generating team. Now I'm not calling conspiracy on anyone, I doubt any of the games are actually "fixed", but it's also got the be in officials' heads who the league would prefer win, or who they themselves would like to see win. Maybe the benefit of the doubt consciously or subconsciously leans toward that team. |

We should invent impartial robot officials. Wouldn't that be great? I remember both the Bucks and the Twolves being worked over by the refs. There was no excuse in either case. The interception was just an odd looking play. I don't know the rule book, but I bought the explanation. And I highly doubt it was the worst call ever. Have you forgotten the days of no instanst replay, where 100% obvious and indisputable calls were blown with no path for recourse? I was hoping the Colts would win the Super Bowl just to make them go away. Now I'll have to root for Steve Smith. The Steelers have really annoyed me this year. I'm not sure why. |

The steelers were getting the screw job during the game. however, the colts can't win playoff games no matter what. i remember when there was no instant replay, poor packers. :( poor me. poor poor me. :( he hate me. he= the man so, bates has decided not to come back. i thought he did a really good job with the talent we had and now he's not coming back. and say what you want that yea people aren't going to pass when they're beating the crap out of ya, but we fought some pretty close games so i don't think that's the case. once again, i'm not going to back this up with fact. tax tip #1: remember, refunds are your money, it was always your money, so when you get a big a refund remember, you just gave the government a big interest free loan. So, fill out your W-4 correctly or whatever the heck it's called. Fight the power! |

Art Monk for the Hall of Fame!!!Jon
People act like Washington can't score because they have no offense. They did play the number one defense last week. I think Seattle is better though.Sarah
I want the Redskins to win, I really do, but I'm gonna pick Seattle because they have the best record. Did you know it's Favre against Arizona's kicker for sexiest man in the NFL championship? Vote now!
