Cowboys 20 @ Packers 41 |
JeremyI don't know where to go with this one. On one hand the Packers always seem to lay an egg after a big win, on the other hand they can't really go 0-4 at home....can they? I'm still pissed about my phantom Lions pick last week, I picked the Packers...I did...I don't know what happened. The Packers owe me for the win because I've only hit one Packer game this year. So I'll pick GB cause if they win, I'll get it right and if they lose I wont care because it's always good when they lose.
JonHey Sarah, how do you like your tuna? With a side of creamed corn?
SarahOOOOO the hated cowboys. It's like the mid 90's all over again. Except, both of these teams suck. :( Last week's game was a bit invigorating though. I really didn't think we had it in us. But, something turned the Pack around and they played with some heart. That's what has been lacking these last 4 weeks. Driver turned it up a notch, and I loved the TD pass by Green. He is being bothered by a sore achilles tendon, so he might not get much playing time again. The team just has to work together, and anything is possible. |
Broncos 10 @ Bengals 23 |
JeremyJohn is going to kill Boomer in this matchup.
JonThis week I'll be starting at running back for the Broncos.
SarahOh my boys the Bengals playing Monday night. I am picking them to win and I am not sure why. Anything could happen I suppose. A better game to talk about would be the Pats Jets game. That should be interesting. The Pats will really be tested, and maybe their streak will end. |

Here's the thing. No one is denying the fact that Moss can catch TD passes. Nor does anyone like McKenzie. So I guess my question is, what's your point? |

what the video clip doesn't show is when moss shoved McKenzie at about the 15 yard line giving him ample separation. Watch the whole play, it's there. A Viking fan may not see the shove, but just because you don't want to see it doesn't mean it isn't there:) |

There's no point...just that I made the comment about him getting owned again last week and then I found these pics. I think "shoved" is a bit extreme, but there was some contact, again no worse than that of any one else. Recievers are allowed to "be physical" DB's are not. |

He had more offensive PI than the other top 9 receivers combined last year. I'd have to imagine that's statisticly significant enough for there to of had to been something fishy going on since db's and recievers do something that could be called on pretty much every play. |

Moss had more offensive PI calls because he pushes off on almost every route, except maybe slant routes. Maybe his percentage of push offs called against him is a little high, but thats because he does it so often. The Red Sox being down 0-3 and coming back to tie and then win the series is not very predictable. Only 3 teams have even gotten back to 2-3. The Sox are the first team ever to force a game 7, so I don't see how that's predictable. I also don't see how the Yankees were so good this year. Their starting lineup is usually all household names, but they have a couple of bums this year (Tony Clark?). There has been a ridiculous number of extra inning games this postseason, just to point out the obvious. |

I think they're referring to the fact that it was the yankees vs. the red sox, a match-up that the tv people wanted to see because it's such a big rivalry. |

Sarah is a wise woman. Indeed what I meant (and I think Scott meant) was not that the outcome was predictable. But rather if it were a movie it would be written to play out exactly like that. About the only thing we could offer is guest article spots. We don't really have anything else. Moss uses his hands like every other WR. It just looks more obvious because a lot of his catches are stationary jump balls. |

Moss has go go gadget arms, which he uses as weapons and should get penalized simply for setting foot on the field. I was just kidding about the "what this page needs" comment, I was just bored and I was thinking about something I wrote for a dorm evaluation sheet. Go Astros |

true has anyone noticed that very quietly the Packers receiving corps has become one of the best in the league. Donald Driver and Javon Walker as a tandom are 2nd in the league in Receptions and 1st overall in yards. Both are on pace for over 90 catches. Now I wish that could translate into wins. |

Life without Grady Jackson......130 rushing yards per game against life with Grady Jackson.......66 rushing yards against Javon Walker continues on his torrent pace, he is the only receiver in the league at this point to average more than 100 yards per game. Things are looking good for Green Bay, everything is coming together finally. All we need now is for this year's edition of the Choking Vikings. |

I can also control if it shows up in the new content, by the time I saw Scott's comment many people had been to the the week anyway since his did show up in the new content page so I thought, screw it. Volek came in doing way better than McNair was doing, plus we were without Moss. I'm not going to feel bad for other teams injuries, we're as bad off as anyone else, and winning. |

Vikings and Packers are 1-2 in Total offense, and 28-21 in total defense. When the 2 teams meet in 3 weeks, it's going to be a shootout, unless moss is hurt, cuz the vikes only had 161 passing yards without him. Is it truly a myth? |

Well the Vikings beat the Titans without Moss. Those same Titans who beat the ever living crap out of the Packers. The Vikes have scored only 8 less points, with one game less, and their opponents have scored 44 less points. We ran the ball more against the Titans than we normally do. When your back gets you 7 a carry who needs to pass? Plus Daunte had 183 yards. No one ever said there would be no drop off, but they can get the job done without him. |

Actually I was watching the world series a couple days ago and they showed some guys post season and lifetime average, which gave me the idea. However, that makes it a perfect 3/3 on other Page 3 staffers (as well as my brother Cory) who said the same thing. Perhaps it is you who are insecure :) I'll never understand why National League rules apply in the World series at the NL parks. It's a huge advantage for the National League team. |

I meant to comment on this the first time I saw it but I forgot. Playing 2 snaps to keep a consecutive game streak alive is weak, very weak. I barely watched any of the World Series. Didn't really care. Football season is in full swing and I neither like nor dislike both teams. Quite the winning streak though by the Sox. And quite a choke by the Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds combo. That first comment is about Moss in case anyone didn't know. |

I don't think the Moss thing was weak at all. I think that they planned on using him more in red zone situations and as a decoy, but the game was in the bag pretty quickly and they didn't feel like they needed to use him. |

I think they talked up the decoy and red zone thing just to get the other team to plan for it. That I have no problem with. Oct 31, 2002 article "Favre has started 180 straight games, counting playoffs. Although the Packers fully expect Favre to start against Miami, Sherman was asked what would happen if he suffered a setback during the week. Sherman was adamant in saying that he wouldn't give Favre a token snap or two just to keep his streak alive." After scouring the earth for boxscores and such, I find no token start for Farve after a Viking game. The least he's done in a game after a Minnesota matchup was his 6 of 15 game against the Bears on Oct. 31, 1994 in a game in which the Packers ran for 223 yards and won. He also got hurt in a TB game after a Vikings game (Sapp), but that was later in the game. |

I did not watch the game, but from the box score the Titans were winning until 1:18 left in the first quarter when the Vikings tied it. It was then another 5 minutes of game time before the Vikings went up by 7, not a very big lead. Then with 56 seconds left in the first half, they made it 14 point lead. Still hardly in the bag, although I'm assuming that the Titans were really playing poorly from what I've heard and read. So it was a close game until that second TD and Moss only got 2 snaps in the whole first half? TOKEN! In an unrelated story, I just got my first phone call from the mothership, I mean alma mater, asking me to phone home, meaning give them money. I politely told the young woman that I was still paying off student loans and I'd be glad to contribute in a couple of years when those are paid off. Apprentice time! |

When the Vikes were about to put the TD #2 on the board in the second quarter Moss was out there. Obviously Sherman would say that, that doesn't mean when the time/pressure came he wouldn't cave. I swear there was one time when Favre ended up in a boot after a Viking game and played a very short time in the next game. I could be wrong. It's a non issue anyway, token starts/streak exenders are common. I have to imagine Jerry Rice got a couple token receptions in that big reception streak of his. If they would have thrown a screen pass to Moss on the first play for zero yards then he didn't come back that would be a bigger deal. (Although not on par with Strahan's token sack) However they really did use him as a redzone decoy like they said, so it detracts from the "tokenness" a bit. |

He only played 2 plays!!!! Out of the whole game!!! I don't think I've ever tried to defend the Strahan sack. Only Brett knows what really happened there, but it would tough to say that Strahan earned that sack no matter what Brett's explanation was. I don't think he's ever given one? I seem to remember Farve ending a game in the Metrodome that way as well. However I'm pretty sure I checked every box score for every Packers game after a Vikings game that Farve has played in. There were a couple of times that the Packers had their bye after Vikings game, maybe that's what happened and Farve would probably have missed the next game but they had a bye. Actually now that I say that I think that's what happened, he got hurt in Minnesota but the bye week allowed him to heal up enough to play the next game. 4 sure. What exactly would qualify as a token reception? It needs to be a forward pass to qualify as a reception (I'm just assuming that, didn't look it up) and I doubt any defender would just let him catch a pass, so any reception would have to be earned. Lining up for 2 plays as a WR and running a little route as a decoy (I'm officially pasting a picture of Moss in my dictionary next to "decoy" since it's used so often) doesn't require much earning. If he'd have caught a pass for 0 yards at least he'd have done something. Or even a pass thrown in his direction. Playing decoy for 2 plays is about as token as it gets. The only thing less token then that is playing decoy for 1 play. So I guess on a scale of 1-10, it was a 9.99 token performance, not a perfect 10. Ok, I guess I'll move on to week 8 now. |

McNair was out and the back-up was playing like crap. By half-time everybody pretty much new the game was over, so Moss didn't even come out for the 2nd half. If the game was closer and the Vikes were in a short jump-ball type TD or 3rd downbsituation, Moss would have been used. |

Titans 3 @ Vikings 20
Jeremy
You can say all you want about Daunte Culpepper. He's on pace for easily the greatest season any quarterback has ever played. Going into the Saints game he was already on pace for the best season. It’s hard for people to believe players can sustain their torrent early season pace. Well he UPPED the pace amassing more yards then the Saints had and threw for 5 tds for the 3rd time. That is all great, but the most telling thing about Daunte this year, perhaps because it goes directly against a common knock on Daunte, is he had his best game EVER without Randy Moss on the field for half the game. With Randy Moss in street clothes rooting from the sideline he led the Vikes to 24 points. As many points as 21 teams had in their entire game. The Vikes had 10 more points without Randy than with, 5 teams scored 10 or fewer points in their game last week. If Randy doesn’t suit up he ends his starting streak, he's never missed a pre, regular or post season game. If he doesn't dress oddly enough his consecutive catches and TD's lives on, because it only counts games you play. (Rice, who holds the TD record, apparently missed almost an entire season.)Matt
As a protest to Jeremy's random and dictatorial decision to post this page early and before my picks were in, I will make no game comments this week other than this: Free Larry Ned.Jon
Moss, no Moss, no matter. Minnesota is on a roll.Sarah
I dislike Tennessee. They shamed us at OUR house. I hope they do that at the dome, but I am going to have to pick the Vikings as long as they keep hanging in there. Even though they have been putting the points on the board, they haven't been keeping them off either. AKA defense needs a little work. Tennessee really kind of sucked last week. COME ON!
