Fantasy SOD Curtis Martin and Marshall alum Chad Pennington will both have to have good games for the Jets to win. I think they will. Jets 17 - Steelers 14
jon.jpg
Jon
Picking a team with a rookie quarterback makes me a bit nervous, but I'm fairly sure that Pittsburgh could win throwing ten passes or less. As long as three of those passes aren't interceptions returned for touchdowns, they'll be fine.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
Steelers are going to the Super Bowl. 'Nuff said.

Rams 17 @ Falcons 47

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Vick getting a vote for MVP despite not breaking the top 20 in anything passer related makes me ill, and not Beastie Boys ill. Unless his mom got to vote, the voter must have looked at the situation like who is the one guy that if you took him off the team they go from good to in the crapper, and then voted for Vick. Which would be a semi-valid approach in a close match up or tie breaker. In this situation they decided that Vick could throw for 70 yards 1 td and 2 ints a game and still be the MVP because he means that much to his team. Ridiculous.

Oh and the Rams suck.
matt.jpg
Matt
Interesting...... The four teams responsible for ending the Packers' season the last four years are also the four remaining NFC playoff teams. Rams 34 - Falcons 23
jon.jpg
Jon
Atlanta is the most mysterious team around right now and it makes sense since Michael Vick is leading them. This team is middle of the road both offensively and defensively. This is a team that beat Denver 41-28 and beat Arizona 6-3. They also lost to the Kansas City team by about a hundred points and got shut out by Tampa Bay. This team doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Yet they have some weird ability to win. They can stick with basically any team around, even if Vick throws for like 27 yards. If they go on to win the Super Bowl, it could change the way we measure success at the qb position. I mean, take a look at Vick's stats. His passing stats are nothing beautiful at all. Yet, he's now led his team to the playoffs both times he's been the primary starter for his team. Someone get Tommie Frazier on the phone! I think that the Falcons can win because they can run the ball well, and not just with Vick. That's a weakness for the Rams' defense. Plus, Atlanta can take the ball away on defense, which could easily come into play on Saturday.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
I really don't care, but I guess Atlanta can win this one if they really try. We could've played against the Falcons.

Vikings 14 @ Eagles 27

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Wouldn't that be funny if we took out the Packers and their newest arch rivals? Now that they somewhat salvaged the season coming off of last weeks Super Bowl I have a little faith in my boys again. I hope whoever they drug off the street to wear the defense's jerseys last week show up again. However, despite the 31-17 blowout score, the game was never really out of hand. The offense had many chances to put the dagger in and failed, probably too many chances. Luckily Interception McGee was playing in his typical playoff form. Another game that was closer than the score was the week 2 game. The Vikings had 2 tds taken off the board and made it to the one yard line roughly 89 times. Also had ABC not sucked there could have been a replay that showed TO not catching that one TD.

if(phillyMissesTOALot() || (theVikesDShowsUp() && theVikesOffenseIsMoreOpportunistic() && mossIsHealthy())) {
theVikesCouldWin = true;
}
else{
itCouldBeALongDay = true;
}

I thought my fellow dorks might get a kick out of that.
matt.jpg
Matt
Last week the Vikings played their best game since week 7. If they play the same way this week they'll have a good shot against the Eagles (especially w/o Owens). Vikings 42 - Eagles 33
jon.jpg
Jon
Week 2 rematch in the NFC.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
I hope Philly kicks someone's ass, pants or no pants or fake pull down of pants. Whatever

Colts 3 @ Patriots 20

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Indy looked good last week. New England has had a lot of close games they seem to pull out in the end. I can see them going down here pretty easily. Especially since the refs will be extra extra super picky about the 5 yard chucking thing.
matt.jpg
Matt
Manning and Co. will put an end to the "Patriot Reign". Colts 36 - Patriots 27
jon.jpg
Jon
I figured I'd go with New England. Then I figured Peyton would pull through. I want Indy. I'm a big Tony Dungy fan. But New England has not lost at home, they are able to put up big points when they play a sub par defense. But Peyton Manning...those receivers...Edgerrin...that offense...I don't know what to think. They do have a great pass rusher in Freeney, but the Patriots are still probably the better team. I'm going to reluctantly go with them.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
The Colts just can't ever beat New England. Ever.

Despite my well thought insights into last week's games I ended up only picking one winner. So I'll just go with my gut instinct this week.

Pit, Atl, Philly, Indy

I'm on call this weekend so I pretty much have nothing better to do then watch the games (not like I wouldn't anyway), but just looking at the teams that are left I'm not getting very excited for the games. I predict lots of channel flipping to some NCAA or NBA hoops.

After taking a few days off to cool down and not go and trash everyone and everything under the sun, I'm back.

I'm going with these teams:

Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Philly, Indy

I soo badly want to pick the Jets against the Steelers, but I'm not. I'm not giving Ben Roethlisberger any more credit than he deserves, but the Steelers defense is good. My only doubt would be that Ben R. is still a rookie and that still needs to make at least 1 rookie mistake this year. Brooks Bollinger is the back to Pennington in this game, and Pennington has been sick all week, so Bollinger could possibly see some playoff action.

the 2 8-8 teams will be gone after this week, well, I hope at least one of them will be gone.

Indy at New England. Can Peyton Manning be stopped? Not by New Englands battered secondary. This is probably a classic case of a toss up if there ever was one. New England still is the New England Patriots, but I think Indy will pull this one out, and Manning will put the critics to rest about his ability to win big games.

I went 3-1 last week.

And after that install the cancer research thing. Our rank is improving but we need to break the top 10,000. I usually turn it off when I'm actually on my computer, but it hurts me none to let it run all day while I'm at work. Plus the extra heat from running the cpu all day helps keep my room warm.

I don't know what you guys are looking at, but I see 2 9-8 teams. One of which is a pathetic 3-7 outside their pathetic division.

Why did Leinart decide to stay for his senior season? He was going to go #1 in the draft. The only thing he can do is have a bad year or get hurt. He could always finish school later if that's his reason. Straight foolishness.

I guess. But if someone offered me a new job where I was still doing software development, but it was more challenging and came with a couple million dollar raise, I don't think I would answer them with, "No I'm too busy having fun. Check back in a year.". Every player who leaves college early to go pro isn't necessarily just in it for the money. I guess if just wants to have fun then, fine that's a good Californian's motto anyway. College level competition hardly seems challenging for him when his team is stacked, so it's like seasoned pros playing video games against n00bs. It's fun to dominate sometimes, but it's also fun to challenge yourself to do more, raise the bar, face some tougher competition, take your game to the next level. USC is returning most of their starters, so is the challenge for them to win every game by 30 points this year or what?

Dierdorf is retarded!!!! How hard is it to understand clock management? Tie game, Jets are at Steelers 30 something 2nd down play results in 3 and 5 clock running at 2:07, Steelers take first time out of the half. This is a brilliant move. Any sort of run or completed pass will likely result in the clock stopping at 2:00. An incomplete pass will likely stop clock before 2 minute warning. And lo and behold incomplete pass at 2:03. Jets attempt field goal to go to 2 minute warning, giving the Steelers 2 minutes and 2 timeouts to tie the game if the Jets make the field goal. Yet Dan Dumbdorff repeatedly criticizes the Steelers for taking that timeout. When they get the ball after the missed Jets field goal, he still is saying, "I bet they'd rather have given up those seven seconds to still have that timeout." Ludicris!!!!! If they hadn't used the timeout, clock goes to 2 minute warning, 4 second incomplete pass on 3rd down, probably another 4 or 5 for the missed field goal, now they get the ball with 1:51 and 3 timeouts, which is about equal to 2 minutes and 2 timeouts, ecspecially since they only need a field goal to win. But if the Jets complete the pass on third down, short of the first, then the Steelers would have had to use timeout, with the end result being probably around 1:47ish with 2 timeouts remaining. Granted this is not as big a difference as I thought it would be before calculating this all out, but that is still the worst scenario (the one that Dierdork apparently favored) of the three.

I know all you fools are probably only watching the football game, but if so that's your loss. The Badgers just came back from being down 8 with 2:00 left to extend their home winning streak to 38 games by beating #12 Michigan St. 62-59. Sweetness!!! And check this out, Bo Ryan coached Badger teams are 6-0 against Tom Izzo coached Michigan St. teams.

I watched the badger game. That was quite the finish. The Badgers scored the last 11 points of the game. And the Vikings suck. Both teams have done some stupid things in this game, but the vikings were stupider. What was up with that fake field goal? was that simply just a miscommunication? I hope that's all it was. Anyway, I'm 3-0 in my picks so far. If Indy wins I will have beaten all y'all this week, and I'll have the overall lead.
