Browns 7 @ Dolphins 10 |
JeremyWhat was Brady thinking on that "pass"?
MattBernie Kosar played for both of these teams.
JonCleveland. Not too good. They need Al Bundy.
SarahWow, did the Dolphins ever make the Page 3 writers look foolish when they played the Patriots on MNF. I guess nothing is ever a lock. Since Cleveland is nothing special, I'll go with Miami again, making the 49ers the worst team of the year. |
Eagles 7 @ Rams 20 |
JeremyIf philly wins Minn is in...and of course Owens is out. They looked disturbingly normal without owens.
MattMerry Christmas | |
JonKenyon Martin:Cincinnati :: Terrell Owens:PhiladelphiaIs this true? This week may clue us in.
SarahOk, here's why I am going with St. Louis. TO is out. The Eagles have everything locked up. They may be sitting people out so that no one gets hurt. This may hurt them in the end though. Plus, I believe St. Louis is still in the hunt. So, I am going on a whim and picking St. Louis. |

I will be gone on starting thursday, so I'm "submitting" these picks early. Green Bay Kansas City Denver Jacksonville Detroit San Diego New Orleans Baltimore Cincinnati New York Jets Buffalo Seattle Tampa Bay Washington Miami St. Louis I kringe not picking Minnesota, because Minnesota seems to win when I pick against them, and lose when I pick in their favor, but I'm not letting these evil spirits tempt me this week, not when there's so much on the line. I sense a shootout in this game; 2 bad defenses against 2 explosive offenses. We'll see who the better 84 is in the game. |

The Eagles have 9 players going to the Pro Bowl. The Vikings have 3: Culpepper, Birk (who's been out for awhile), and Kevin Williams. No Vikings #84. I wonder if there will be a Packers 84.... stay tuned! |

I am hoping yes, although the Redskins FB has had some good numbers. But really now, FB33 is a tremendous blocker and has excellent numbers. The anticipation..... |

I though TO was having the best year as a receiver, but he's only a reserve. The starters are Joe Horn and Musshein Muhhammad or whatever his name is. How odd, I didn't know Joe Horn was having that great of a year. |

Tom Brady doesn't deserve to go. He's got less yards and more ints than Trent Green with the same number of TDs. And why the Packers still only have 1 offensive linemen going is beyond me. But the most important thing here is that there are more Packers than Vikings. |

Using Sarah logic it's ok Moss didn't go since he's turned down the last few. Also it would be a very short argument of which 84 is better if your "proof" is one making one probowl over another who missed 5 games (and still had stats that would make many WR jealous). I suspect Birk made it because they've been screwing him for years. That's surprising they didn't invite Jesus. On the other hand my boy should be starting his 3rd probowl in 5 seasons as a starter. |

Brady wasn't really a stretch because his team will make the playoffs but Green has racked up his stats in garbage time games that came after they were basically eliminated from the playoffs. The AFC receivers and the NFC linebackers are where players got screwed the most. I voted for Harrison, Bennett, Wayne, and Mason; SportsNation chose Harrison, Bennett, Wayne, and C. Johnson. Either way, Ward and A. Johnson don't deserve it. Linebackers Trotter and Washington are unworthy. It should've have been Barnett (63.5% of SportsNation thought so) and Will Witherspoon. Other bad choices: Chris McAlister, La'Roi Glover, and Dre' Bly. I don't pretend to watch hours of O-lineman blocking so I make no judgment on those selections. Using my own logic, it's close between Favre and Vick, but Vick has more W's so I can accept that. And Moss simply missed too much time, not too mention that the NFC WRs who were picked are all having monster years. |

Hines Ward deserves to go. He's the best blocking WR in the NFL. Not that I can prove that in any way. I think I read that somewhere. Or heard it. |

can't complain about the way the Packers beat the vikings this time. Feels good to say that they swept the Vikes. That's 2 years in a row in the dome. Reggie White was the kind of guy who would have had a major impact in his community for his entire life. I hope God raises up more Reggies, not as football players, but as people. |

At what point does Minnesota become Dallas to the Packers? I.E. The Packers have beaten them so many times its not a rivalry anymore. |

First of all the all time Packer Viking rivalry is almost dead even. Secondly the Cowboys ended the Packers run pretty much every year for quite some time. The packers didn't beat them all the time at all. Now how the bears packers thing is considered a rivalry is what I don't understand. The refs apologized during halftime for the bonus timeout that lead to the fg, so I suppose we have to accept the apology and not complain...like when the NFL issued a letter apologizing for 9 blown calls in the 4th quarter at Lamblow a couple years ago including calling PI on what was a game clinching TD. Maybe they wouldn't have to keep apologizing if they didn't keep screwing us. There were a lot of records set during the game. One of them was the Packers not having a single tackle in the 2nd quarter. |

I think he meant so many times recently and I think it was more of a diss then a calculated comment. And ever since the Packers got over the hump against the Cowboys, they've owned them (as have many other teams in recent years, not including the Redskins). I think the Bears-Packers rivalry is kept alive more in the Southern part of the state then up North. What should the refs have done then if not measure? The problem is the NFL's rules are dumb and people aren't used to the clock stopping for such things. In college no one would even blink an eye at that play. Everyone says the enforced rules about DB-WR contact are responsible for more prolific passing this year, but I think tackling (or more specifically the lack thereof) has played just as big of a role. Moss still doesn't look 100% (or even close to it). |

No Moss doesn't, he might still have lingering hammy problems with back spasms to boot. Basically as the ref explained it: It's a judgment call as to whether or not they grant a measurement to see how close they are to a first (remember it's not a CHALLENGE to see if it IS a first, just to see how CLOSE it is). The pass happened right in front of the marker, it was clear he was short, and was signaled right away. The Packers ran up to spike it and had no contingency plan, so clearly measuring it meant nothing because they needed all or nothing with 7 seconds and no time outs. What difference is it if it's 4th and 6 inches or forth and 9 yards in that situation? You couldn't do a qb sneak to get the first. The ref just kind of panicked (because obviously he didn't have all that much time to decide either) and granted the measurement. |

I don't understand the thinking behind the enforced penalties leads to bigger pass games, unless you can prove that guys actually changed how they play, or it changed the run/pass ratio of plays called. I think it has had an effect, but it can't be the single factor. |

Tonight's game screwed me, and then it screwed me again, and then some more. One public league championship I needed 10 points from Philly D. I think I'm looking at like 5 points. Another public league championship I needed a measly 19 points from Westbrook, Holt, and the Philly D combined. I think I got 8. A public league 3rd place game I was down 11, he had McNabb. So you think maybe I could at least benefit on one my teams because Philly sent the local high school team to play. But Akers and Holt combined for 4 points. And McNabb threw 3 passes and had a TD. 3 awesome seasons pooped on because of the Eagles and Martz deciding for the first time is his life to run the ball. Instant arch-enemy status for both teams. Evil #1 and #1A. Go Seahawks and Vikings. I suck at CS. |

They've been overrated for the last 5 years and I was rooting for the underdog Cardinals to make the playoffs for once (it was the least I could do as a Packer fan after last year!). I thought I was done being tortured by last night's game, but for the last couple weeks some guys at work and I have been filling out Best Buy teams and whoever gets the lowest score each week has to bring in doughnuts. And of course I had the Eagles D again. And of course I got the lowest score. By 1 point. Sacks and turnovers are worth 3 points each. They had an interception off a fake punt, but then they challenged it to get better field position, and the replay never really actually indisputedly showed the ball touching the ground. Ridiculous. |

I think it's beyond rediculous that they flew the flag at half mast. If they want to fly their Green Bay Packer flags that way then fine, he was a big part of their team and that would be a nice tribute, but the American flag doesn't come down everytime someone is sad. It was sudden and tragic yes, but he was a nice guy and a football player, he did nothing wrong but he was not some american hero, not a soldier, not a President, and I think vetrans have every right to be pissed that Harlan took it upon himself to skirt the rules. If we start doing symbolic things too often they lose their meaning. I often complain at sporting events about all the patriotic things that happen now since 9/11 and get ribbed by Matt and Jon about it. I complain not because I'm unpatriotic, but because immediately after 9/11 it was about being patriotic, but as time goes on and on we don't stand for God Bless America because we are swept up in patriotism but because it's the 7th inning stretch. There are people who want to stop singing the national anthem before games because, like above, it's become the thing you do before a game, not a showing of patriotism. I don't know if I'd take it that far but I see their point. The fact remains that if you don't reserve certain things for truley special moments then they lose anything special about them. Do you know how many 18-25 year old from Wisconsin and Green Bay have probobly died in Iraq over the last few months and they fly the flag at half mast for a 43 year old, millionaire, ex football player, friend who died in his sleep? Did Harlan fly the flag like that for Pat Tillman? I'm sorry to be harsh, but take the fan emotion out of the equation and it really is obsurd. |

Meauring was a no brainer! If any Viking fan complains that the refs stopped the clock to measure a play that was about 2 chain links short of a first down than they are just dumb. If it happened with 45 seconds left, or 5 minutes left no one would have said a thing, why should things be done differently with 8 seconds left? |

You dont get it, forth down was signaled, you were not getting a first, you had no challenges, why does it matter how close you are? |

and it can be done differently because it's a ref judgement call on when they measure to see how close it is depending on the situation. |

One more thing...the refs didn't stop the clock to measure just to see for themselves, the Packers requested a "how close are we" measurement. |

The head official apologized during halftime for 2 reasons. One being that they blew the spot on that play and it never should have been even close to being measured and two that they did the wrong thing in measuring, which virtually gave the packers a free timeout to get the fg unit on the field when the clock would have clearly ran out, instead of just signaling 4th down. As an official in any situation like that you are just supposed to make a call because whether you signal 4th down or 1st down they weren't going to get a play off. Nobody was at the line and they wouldn't have been able to spike it. But it wasn't even a question of if it was a first down or not... it clearly wasnt and was supposed to be even further away. It was just poor officiating... imagine that. I don't see how you can possibly argue about something that is a fact. Just like the fact that derek ross recovered the fumble for the Vikings in the first game between these two teams. And if the officials apologize for it you know it was wrong so i don't see how you can argue with that. |

7-9, 142-98 Teams only play 17 game seasons, the least they could do is try to win every game. Sure I hope Favre doesn't play the whole game this week, but only after they get out to at least a 7-point lead. 3rd stringers running the show by the second quarter is ridiculuous. Plus what about teams that have nothing to play for playing teams that need to win? Vick and others don't play last week, but supposedly the Falcons are going to play them all and try to win this week? Did the Rams or other teams pay them to try and win this week? Or did the Saints bargaining their way to a bye last week? |

Wow, I have to say I have been kind of disappointed with both of these teams, although it's not a bad thing when I say that about the Vikings. I can't really say what kind of teams are going to show up for this game, I hope some good teams so we see a good game. Go Pack!
