Packers 30 @ Vikings 27 |
JeremyTo be honest I don't have a good feeling about this. Green Bay has had two weeks to prepare for this "win or the season is over" game and the Vikes seem to have exposed a weakness in their D. They can't defend runs to the outside or screens. They also have trouble with shorter, quick passes. Luckily the Packers don't do any if those things...
MattIf not for the Giants getting a fluke first down after their own punt was blocked, the game may have ended differently for the Vikings. Minnesota should have its full complement of receivers this week, which should give Culppeper better options when Moss is covered. For these reasons I'm feeling confident about the Vikings this week. On the other hand, if Favre and company can repeat the success of Kerry Collins and his receivers the NFC North might turn in to an actual race. Of course, that won’t happen. Minnesota 47 - Green Bay 12.
JonI'll be honest; last week's game between the Giants and Vikings was actually pretty close to being a Giants blowout. On the other hand, the Vikings could have easily won that game. Let's face it -- this game is basically the Packers' last shot. Oh, and Michael Bennett will probably be taking about two or three handoffs. That could be enough for a hundred yards.
SarahAh sigh. This will end up being a really great game. The Packers have something to prove and are coming off their bye week where they know that they are in a do or die situation. The Vikings are probably pissed off at losing at home to a not so great team. Sharper probably pissed off more people than what the articles say, so I hope everyone is riled up to play a great game against the Vikes. Favre should be ok to play and sometimes he plays awesome when he's injured. (i.e. the Bears game when he threw like 5 TD's with a hurt ankle) However when he has injuries to his arm and thumb (remember 2000? or was it some other year?) it may get ugly. Let's hope this thumb injury brings out the best in him. Let's also hope the RB's do well so not all the pressure is on Favre. This may be a battle to the end, but when times runs out, the Pack will be victorious. (just don't prove me wrong on that please!) |
Patriots 30 @ Broncos 26 |
JeremyThe pats seem to find new ugly ways to win each week. Denver is on their 68th string QB. Figures for the Broncos, I mean if there has been one QB over the last few years that has been the definition of healthy it would be Plummer and then the second he gets to Denver he goes down with like 4 different injuries. One of which, if I remember correctly, was from getting off the couch wrong. Figures indeed.
MattNew England is starting to look like serious Super Bowl contenders as of late. I don't see them having too much trouble with Denver and their Quarterback troubles. Pats over the Broncos: 31 - 6.
JonWhen was the last 0-0 tie in the NFL?
SarahAh poor Denver. What a QB dilemma. Got rid of Griese only to get an oft injured Plummer. At least for this season anyway. Then Steve B. has his pinky twisted in a grotesque way and I believe they are down to like their 4th QB. WR Rod Smith is their emergency back up. Good luck with all that! The Pats have looked somewhat impressive lately, so I'm going to go with them on this one. I found out last night whilst at the BNL concert that BNL joined up with Doug Flutie for one of those NFL duets. They compete against other bands and players on MNF. So, everyone vote for BNL when they show their piece on some Monday night. They are awesome! |

Since Green Bay vs. Minnesota is the Sunday night game, I have selected the Washington vs. Dallas matchup as a "wild card" game to comment on. |

Favre's career dome record 12-20 Favre's career dome record @ vikes 2-9 Favre's career dome record w/o vikes 10-11 (.476) Favre's career road record 41-46 (.471) So, essentially, if you take out the Metrodome, Favre actually has a slightly HIGHER career winning percentage in Domed stadiums (.476) than his overall career road winning percentage (.471). What does this mean? Far from a DOME-issue for Favre, it is a VIKINGS issue. |

It's more of a MetroDome issue (which I guess is the same thing as a vikings issue, but I'm too proud to admit that). also, the packers are probably one of the best teams at running the screen. Ok, a superfan prediction: Packers 97, Vikings 6 |

Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs. Aug. 2, 1980. The game, played amid recurring thunder and lightning, ultimately was called by order of then-NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle with 5 minutes and 29 seconds remaining - as an 0-0 tie. It was one of only a few times in league history that any contest between two NFL teams has been called because of weather conditions. :) |

Some random info: The Twins have notified utilityman Denny Hocking that they won't be bringing him back next season. They also have given the same message to pitchers Jesse Orosco and Rick Reed, and infielder Chris Gomez. Red McCombs phoned the Vikings ticket office Monday to congratulate the staff on the occasion of the team's 60th consecutive sellout. The Vikings will break their single game attendance record of 64,471, set Nov. 22, 1998 against the Packers, on Sunday because of the addition of some field seats that gives the Metrodome additional capacity. The Vikings also will break the season record of 517,344 set in 2001. . . . Vikings ticket manager Phil Huebner reports that for the week of Oct. 12, Ticketmaster officials reported that more Internet users were searching for Vikings tickets on ticketmaster.com than tickets for any other event -- including concerts, plays and other sports events -- in the United States. |

The reason why ticketmaster had so many searches for Vikings tickets was probably because of Packer fans looking for seats. As for your other comment, we don't work the way the Vikings do. We do not have one go to guy. We do more short passes and screens ala the west coast offense than throwng it to one guy for big gains. Our running backs have a lot of receiving yards, Ahman Green is at 229 or so for the year. Even the man, Henderson, has 149. So even though you find that stat impressive, it doesn't really apply to the Packers. Also, don't get your hopes up for an MVP win by Moss because it aint gonna happen. It's going to go to a runningback or a quarterback or to a lesser percentage Dante Hall. Let's have a good game on Sunday! Go PACK! Copyright 2003 Sarah B. All rights reserved |

Your "we spread it out" argument doesn't work because Nate Burleson has 212 yards and a TD and Kelly Campbell has 249 and 2 TDs. There are also 4 other guys with receiving TDs. We spread the ball around fine. For the record the Packers don't throw bombs because they can't, not because they're the "west coast" offense. |

I'm watching the Bucs-Saints game and am enjoying myself tremendously. The Bucs offense has coughed up the ball FOUR times. While the Saints have only gotten 14 points total for the game, the Bucs have ZERO. Gramitica missed a field goal in the first half. Also, our NFC North buddies are both winning big time. I'm just hoping tonight goes in the Packer's favor. |

As of right now, our records are looking pretty bleak. Good job Jon, so far you are 0-6. I am definitely ok with Tampa Bay losing however. But yikes. Not good all around. Let's turn it around with the late games. Of course, only I will get a win tonight. :) |

There really aren't a whole lot of teams that can do what the vikings can do as far as explosive passing goes because of Moss. He is arguably one of the best WR in the league and prolly the MVP so far this year. I'm not all too surprised that he has out-recieved the packers. The "spread it out" argument. 1)the Packers have 8 guys with td passes 2)Packers have 6 guys with 100+ recieving yards (MN 4) 3)Packers have 6 guys with 10+ catches (MN 4) What does this all mean?? Not much really I guess. The arument doesn't make sense when you compare these 2 teams because of the Vikings don't need spread the ball around if they have a sure-fire superstar who can do what Moss does. So really, this is just denial on the part of a Packer fan. The Vikings probably have the edge, but the Packers will definitely win. I guarantee it. |

263 yards? yea they did ok. :) no fumbles!!!! yay!!!! Loved the almost TD throw by Ahman Green. Was very surprised the reverse to Driver actually worked. Or whatever it's called. Nothing but good football playing. |

I don't know if I would let the score speak for anything. I have no idea how this was even a 3 point game. The Packers got like 30 yards on every play. I told you I didn't have a good feeling about this one. |

I think you're right about the score. When the Vikes Beat GB in GB it was only a 5 point game but the vikings played better than only 5 points more. The same goes for this game. A w is a w. |

Don't label me a Favre hater...or do if you want, although I wouldn't....but Ahman Green and the O line got no respect from the ESPN announcers. Green is officially the Roger Maris of the Packers. All the announcers could talk about was Favre. And please don't give me the broken hand argument. Their comments went beyond the point of praising him for "gutsy" play. |

It was a broken thumb. And if he injured it during the game and the bone went through the skin, he would have to have surgery which would require a time out of 4-5 weeks. Favre played awesome! Ahman Green though, wowza! He was getting like 9-10 yards a carry. Way Cool. Everyone knows our offensive line rocks, but offensive lines are kind of the unsung heros of any team. |

Jon, I actually agree with you. I am no doubt a huge fan of Favre, but I get fed up of hearing how gutsy he is and how heroic he plays from announcers. It's as if every announcer has to be the one to outdo the other announcers in terms of praise. He is definitely good and definitely deserves a lot of praise, but It is overdone a lot. I would not label you a Favre hater after those comments. Green carried his load last night. The reason the passing game seemed so easy was because Green and Co. ran so well. Although the broken hand was probably the worst injury in Favre's career (in his words it was the first time an injury almost decided whether or not he played for him) I will go on record to say that I avoided that argument at all costs. It's another thing I'm sick of hearing, even as a Packer fan. It become cliche after a while. |

I notice Scott is using the "Classic" theme so he isn't seeing the new packer one. Did you see the Halloween one either? Sarah has been riding me to make a Packer one for a while and since I had planned on making the Viking one the default theme had they won I figured I should be fair. That said I'm also using the "Classic" theme right now. |

This may be wishful thinking, but I think the Packers are back in the heat of things. They beat a very fine football team in a place where wins don't come easy for them, and they have a fairly light schedule coming up. I am much more confident now than I was a week ago. |

In response to Jeremy's comment about Favre's road record: Favre's record in domes is definitely not the greatest, but many people say that it isn't necessarily the indoorsness that gets to him. It may have more to do with the artificial turf. A big chunk of those road loses came against Dallas in the unfinished dome of Texas Stadium, which is Astro turf. Favre lost 7 straight times in Dallas (in a matter of five years no less) and 2 losses to philly, 2 losses to buffalo, all on astro turf. That's 11 loses on astro turf not inside a dome. Our numbers don't match, but if you count these games in the same category as dome games, Favre's career record on artifical turf not against the vikes is 14-22(.389) Depending on who's career road number are correct: Astro turf w/o the Vikes .389 Road .471 or .490 What does this mean? Well, the Vikings have still owned Favre in the dome, but astro turf was not and is not Ron Wolfe's friend. (my source (packers.com) gives Favre's road record as 47-49(.490)) |

Commanders 14 @ Cowboys 21
Jeremy
This was a random game Matt wanted to comment on. Up until this year I always thought coaching was overrated. Parcels seems to be proving me wrong.Matt
Dallas will probably win, but I like Spurrier and dislike Parcells so I'm going with the potatoes 20 - 13. Now you know why I'm in last place (that and the fact that Jeremy rigs the results).Jon
Cowboys and Indians, huh? This isn't even a nationally televised game is it? Why are we commenting then? Oh yeah, Steve Spurrier, Page 3's favorite coach. Did you ever notice he's got a really cool nickname? It's "Ballcoach". That won't be enough, though. Bill Parcells should lead his team to victory.Sarah
So apparently Dallas can be stopped, which is good. They will always be evil to me. As long as they don't get into the playoffs I'm ok with them. Washington I believe has been so so to just plain crappy. Chalk up another one to Dallas.
