Jets 37 @ Bills 31 |
JeremySome say the Bills are "the Patriots" of this season, that may be true but if preseason is any indication they need more time to gel. Bledsoe to Moulds is a dangerous combo but look for Curtis Martin to steal the show.
Matt*** Drew Bledsoe for MVP!!!
JonBledsoe to Moulds should be big this year. Vinny might be old but he can still play. Since Buffalo dissed Flutie, the pick is the New York Jets.
SarahNew York Vs. New York, how often does that happen? I’m glad Wisconsin doesn’t have two football teams it would be hard to root for one over the other. Bledsoe is a decent QB and should do alright. The Jets went 4-0 in the preseason, but the preseason doesn’t mean anything. |
Cardinals 23 @ Commanders 31 |
JeremySpurrier’s NFL debut against a perennially bad D could spell Big points. Of course Plummer is a much more proven QB than Matthews when healthy. Since every bone, joint, and ligament in Plummer’s body has been hurt as of recent that could be a big if. Lets hope he gets out of week one alive.
Matt*** I like Spurrier, but wouldn't it be cool if Joe Gibbs came back to coach.
JonSpurrier creates more hype than an Eminem/Elton John worldwide tour. The Redskin potatoes have looked impressive...in Preseason. That’s right, preseason. I do enjoy big offenses though and I’m somewhat on the Spurrier bandwagon. There’s still a lot of uncertainty, but the Cardinals don’t exactly exude "Powerhouse" vibes. Washington. Big.
SarahArizona hasn’t been that good like ever. Of course that doesn’t mean anything in this day and age of free agency and salary cap and such. But I’m just going on what I know from past years. Plus Steve Spurrier’s first year as an NFL head coach might be just what this team needs. I don’t know how Shane Matthews will do, but he was on the Bears so I’ve got something against him. |
Falcons 34 @ Packers 37 |
JeremyThe young meets the young at heart. Heart wins football games. Vick will be fun to watch but will probably throw an INT or two in critical situations. At some point this season Brett Favre’s playing streak will come to an end when he snaps in half, but not today folks.
Matt*** You know, Favre used to play for Atlanta.
JonVick is elusive, but probably not elusive enough. Warrick Dunn should be the leading receiver for the Falcons this year. Supposedly the Green Bay defense is good. We’ll see. In the end, it’s Favre playing in Green Bay. Green Bay takes it.
SarahPayback’s a B****. They took away my Butler and they will pay. Last year the Falcons were the only ones to beat us at the Frozen Tundra. Vick could be great eventually, but on Sunday he’s going down. Favre is healthy but with a whole new array of wide receivers to go to it may be difficult for him to get into his groove. Maybe this is what Favre needs, excitement that goes along with new things. I wonder how Dan Reeves feels every time his team goes against #4 maybe that’s why his blood pressure is high. |
Vikings 23 @ Bears 27 |
JeremyThe Offense is r-o-l-l-i-n-g. The Vikes question mark defense can hold off the mediocre Bears offense long enough to win the game. Especially since the Vikings run defense has been good vs the run in preseason games and the Bears have little passing prowess.
Matt*** Fire Mike Tice | |
JonRandy needs 123 receptions for 1848 yards and 22 touchdowns to tie each of the records for single season receiving. Start the countdown.
SarahFrankly the Bears were not that impressive last year. They had too easy of a schedule but maybe they’ll surprise me and have a decent record this year as well. I have to pick Chicago because I know no one else will. I think the Vikings are on a thin fine line. They could be very very good this year, or they could need some time to gel together, what with having a new coach and stuff. Note to McKinney: sign already! |
Lions 21 @ Dolphins 49 |
JeremyDetriot’s young QBs are going to struggle against good defenses all year. Ricky Williams will rush for 130 yards and 2 TD’s. And you thought all I did was predict winners and losers. While I’m making other predictions I say the Lions will pick up Jeff George in week 4.
Matt*** Miami in a blowout.
JonLet’s settle this right now - The Ricky Williams ESPN wedding dress magazine cover was clever and funny. For some reason people can’t get over that picture. Someone needs to explain to the m that it’s a joke (and a metaphor). With Jay Fiedler at the helm, gotta go with Miami.
SarahI’m pretty sure the Lions are still rebuilding, and I think they will be for quite awhile. It’s hard to say what Ricky Williams will do; maybe he’ll actually be worth what they paid for him. At least Detroit will be able to enjoy some nice sunny weather. |
Eagles 24 @ Titans 27 |
JeremyGeorge has two legs again, Air McNair is scary, The Titans should return to respectability again...if the key personal stays healthy. They are all a little shaken up already, and were held out of some preseason games. It could be precautionary, but Nashvillians should be tense none the less. If McNair and/or George aren’t in the game look for Philly to roll over them.
Matt*** The Eagles will be good, but I just feel like they're a WR short.
JonTwo years ago the Titans’ D gave up fewer yards than any other team in the league - even the Ravens. Last year they were awful. Unless they’ve vastly improved, they won’t be able to stop McNabb (or Levens). Eddie George should be back in All-Pro form, but the pick goes to Philly. (Sorry Tennessee!)
SarahThe Titans looked impressive when I watched them against the Packers during the Pre season. But how can you go wrong with Antonio Freeman? All joking aside, the Eagles have McNabb and there’s a lot of buzz about a Super Bowl. They went very far last year, and almost beat the Rams during the NFC Championship. Watch out for Dorsey Levens, I think he could play a big part in this offense what with Duce being injury prone. |
Chargers 34 @ Bengals 6 |
JeremyA battle of the Titans. Brees will have a tough time early in the season. These teams match up pretty well, so I’ll go with the home team here. I still regret not bidding on Corey Dillon’s used college jock strap on eBay.
Matt*** Doug Flutie for MVP!!!
JonDrew Brees looks like a legitimate franchise quarterback. If he struggles, there’s always Flutie. Cincinnati, by the way, may be the worst franchise in all of sports. San Diego should take it.
SarahThe Bengals have uglier uniforms so I think they should get a break for something. Sorry that was a stereotypical girl answer, but I had to throw one in there somewhere. |
Chiefs 40 @ Browns 39 |
JeremyI think the Browns are going to surprise a few people this year. They have a strong D. (oddly enough the Big names on D are mostly former Vikings) William Green has been scary in the preseason and Tim Couch looked sharp, then he got hurt, if not for that I'd take the Browns.
Matt*** Man, there are a lot of games to comment on.
JonTrent Green to Johnnie Morton. Get used t to it. Priest Holmes quietly led the league in rushing last year and caught a load of passes too. Throw in Gonzales and it’s a winning formula. Plus, "Couch is out. It’s K.C.
SarahEven though they only went 7-9 last year everyone seems to have high hopes for this expansion team. Tim Couch has been in the league long enough to get comfortable and maybe this will be his breakout year. I haven’t heard anything about KC, but as the season rolls along, I’ll get hip to what’s happening with the Chiefs, who always seem to win when people don’t want them to. The big spoilers. |
Colts 28 @ Jaguars 25 |
JeremyIf James is in the game Indy is tough to beat. The big question is will Taylor’s groin survive the new Dungy lead colts defense. I have week 3 is the Page 3 Staff pool so I hope it holds 'til then. Harrison will put up big yards and well get to see how Jimmy Smith does sans McCardell.
Matt*** It's only a matter of time before Manning is recognized as the greatest big game QB out there.
SarahThe colts were my second favorite team back when Jim Harbaugh was the QB. Indy has what it takes, what with Peyton Manning and all. Should be interesting to see how (and what) Dungy does with this team. For some odd reason I’m picking Jacksonville. I really don’t know how the jaguars are doing but maybe this is my upset of the week. |
Ravens 7 @ Panthers 10 |
JeremyNo team was more demolished by the salary cap than Baltimore, that said Carolina is that bad. Jamal Lewis will struggle after being out a year but will still probably beat the panthers on his own. That is unless Muhsin Muhammad can come up with a big game.
Matt*** Rodney Peete for MVP!!!
JonIt’s usually not a good sign when your top two quarterbacks retire. The Ravens are my pick for worst team in the league this year. Even the lowly Panthers should be able to handle them. Bonus for Carolina: Rodney Peete needs only 9 yards for a first down if he uses his AARP discount. Ah, just kidding Rodney. We love you here at Page 3. The pick is Carolina.
SarahCarolina’s only win last year was against the Vikings. Having said that, you can see why I picked Baltimore. Ha ha only kidding. Their defense should improve with the help of Bernardo Harris. Hopefully Lewis can take time off from counting his money to play a few downs and make an impact. |
Broncos 23 @ Rams 16 |
JeremyDenver’s RB situation is still up in the air and St Louis is the closest thing to a dynasty going right now. Denver might be charged by the hoopla that will surround Terrel Davis’ first game since "Going on the IR." St. Louis has been too good the last seasons to not pick to win in week one.
Matt*** Seriously, I don't think we can keep up with all these games. Maybe we should only comment of some of them, like the Vikings and Packers games, and maybe the Sunday and Monday night games as well.
JonRemember when everyone forgot about Marshal Faulk for about two years? I do. I could have bought a Faulk jersey (while he was on the Colts) for about ten or fifteen dollars. Not the case any longer. St. Louis should take this one.Whew. I need a break. ..Ok.
SarahThey’re just too good. I’m still crying over that playoff game against them. It was like playing the Cowboys in the early mid 90’s all over again. Brian Griese is way overpaid. They have a big gap where number 30 used to play. Davis had been hurt in previous years but I think he played more of a part than just running back. Nobody likes playing in Denver, but I think the fact they’re "at Mile High" will just make Warner’s throws go that much further. |
Saints 26 @ Buccaneers 20 |
JeremyTampa added McCardell and Pittman and could give teams hell this season. Aaron Brooks could be distracted by talks to get his contract up to a decent level (He makes less than BOTH his backups) and although often injured the offense might miss Ricky Williams.
Matt*** Gruden is just what this team needs.
JonI have nothing to say about either of these teams. Except that the national sports media is Warren Sapp’s lap dog. Tampa Bay, cause they’re at home.
SarahObviously I have a certain affection towards Aaron Brooks. He deserves a raise. (hint hint New Orleans) But maybe a new coach was what the Bucs need to go all the way. (Or maybe Sapp should just shut up.) The Saints have lost quite a few defensive players over the past couple of years so maybe Brad Johnson has a chance to shine. (or maybe not.) |
Seahawks 17 @ Raiders 31 |
JeremyShaun Alexander is a stud but Oakland has a better all around team. Hopefully the Raiders are all over the whole Tom Brady fumble/non fumble thing. The Tuck rule is awful and it needs to go, however the refs made the right call, by rule, so move on already. MAN!
Matt*** That Napolean Harris guy the Raiders drafted sure looks like a steal.
JonHere’s what will happen. Alexander will rush for 400 yards, but Oakland will win the game.
SarahThey were one tuck away from going to the Super Bowl. Everyone is really old on their team, so maybe this will be their last hurrah. I have a deep hatred for Bill Romanowski (and anyone who spits in people’s faces) but the Raiders should easily beat the Seahawks. I bet Mike Holmgren wishes he was back in GB with Brett Favre, instead of deciding between Hasslebeck and Dilfer. |
Texans 19 @ Cowboys 10 |
JeremyIt should be close but rookie QB’s usually struggle. Not to say that Quincy Carter is Troy Aikman. This one really is a craps shoot though. I have no clue what to expect. Week one games are hard enough to pick, let alone one between a weak team and a team that has never played a snap of football.
Matt*** With David Carr at QB, its only a matter of time.
JonI like the Oilers’ chances here, but Emmitt Smith and Quincy Carter might prove to be too much. Wait, the Oilers are in Montreal. Well, the Texans are an expansion team. It’s a close call but the nod goes to Dallas.
SarahSure this is their first game ever, but why would I ever think the Cowboys could win anything? I am not rooting for Emmit Smith to beat Payton’s record because I think Sweetness deserves it more. (maybe not reasonable logic, but has anything I ever written been logical?) David Carr looks good and has a good attitude and I hope he can connect with Corey Bradford. I do think they can come up with a better name than the Texans though. |
Steelers 14 @ Patriots 30 |
JeremyAt least I’m giving them some credit. They did, after all, win the Super Bowl. People act like they were the XFL champs who were then annexed by the NFL. Let’s hope Tom Brady isn’t a one year oneder. (Pronounced Oh- neh-der) As a side note how can you not like Tom Brady? Is there a soul outside of Oakland that isn’t enamored with him? I’ll stop now.
Matt*** I'm telling you guys, this Belichick guy is a genius.
JonGive them some respect. They're the Champs.
SarahThe Steelers are always good, and the Patriots are Super Bowl Champions so it will be a rough game since everyone is going to look at their games against NE as payback. Tom Brady is hot so they got that going for them. |

The thing is I came here like 2 or 3 times trying to figure out why you would make a post signifying the up coming post as well after the fact. Somehow I feel like you messed with the integrity of Page 3 here. |

Just to clear things up... Since I didn't post any comments on these games originally, as MBL I decided that I still retained the right to comment on this week. As the old saying goes "Better 3 1/2 years late than never". |

So I stumbled across this page again, and I thought to myself "so you guys used to comment on all the game?" It turns out I had that exact same thought 5 years ago. Weird. |

49ers 16 @ Giants 13
Jeremy
Garcia to Owens is more dangerous than Collins to Toomer. Strahan has to get to work on erasing the asterisk from his record. Tiki Barber is a little banged up but should play.Matt
*** I think this will be Ron Dayne's breakout year.Jon
Jeff Garcia. Terrell Owens. San Francisco.Sarah
People think Garcia is going to be MVP this year. They also have a guy named Owens, who, while I don't think is good, seems to do alright for himself. I'll be rooting for Ron Dayne, but they don't have what it takes to beat the Niners.
