Prosthetic-limbed runner disqualified from Olympics
Matt, Jon, and I were just talking about this not too long ago. I think we saw a commercial for the bionic woman and that started a conversation about what will happen in sports when there comes a time where prosthetics are actually better than human legs. Though, the conversation was about legs that look like "normal" legs, not wild, spring loaded, things. What will happen in the not too distant future when a person with super-powered cyborg legs wants in the NFL? Should they let them in? Would they have any grounds to keep them out? Would they be pressured by handicapped organizations? (Are "handicapped organizations" and "organizations for the handicapped" the same thing?)

The article alludes to some studies that concluded the legs give him an actual advantage over normal legs, so I agree that he shouldn't be allowed. Super-powered cyborg legs? Sounds like the rebirth of the XFL. The one about such situations that annoys me is when a clearly not "normal" person says they "just want to be treated like everyone else". Deal with it. I'd like to be treated like I was 6' 6" and had game like Jordan, but it's just not going to happen. If you have metal legs, you're not normal. |

Maybe handicapped people will form their own super human league. Imagine if the NFL was rendered obsolete by the Bionic Football League. Stranger things have happened. How much would you pay to see two guys smash half of each others bodies to bits at around 75 miles per hour? Lots. | ||

Maybe not the same thing, but entertaining. Robot Football. EDIT(tm): I'd like to thank Packer hater Matt for showing me how to do the whole "change the name of the link" thing. It doesn't appear to work universally for me?. |

How is that at all like American football? If anything it's a lot more like the rest of the world football. |
