No Vikings Opener on TV?

I dunno how much I want to lay into the 2007 Vikings, but this is sad....

Well, Matt and Jon can hitch a ride with us more likely than not. Seeing as you'd have to watch the game at BWW even if it is on which would cost $10ish and these tickets will likely be cheap.

[rant]By the way, the only reason this is an issue is because the Vikings keep a significant portion of the seats available for non season ticket holders. (Also they, and many teams, have a long wait list for season tickets. I just thought I'd point that out because Packer fans seem to have the attitude they are the only team with a wait list.) The Packers would "sell out" the stadium if 10 people actually showed up for the game because vitually every seat is a season ticket and many many of them aren't "owned" by the person who owns them. The reason the Packers list is so long is because no one would EVER turn them in because they can sell them to a ticketing agency who can scalp them for a zillion dollars because you can't buy them any other way. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Why there isn't more outrage over this intentional bilking of fans in Packerland I'll never understand. Everyone just accepts it as the status quo as if the Packers are powerless against it. The Packers sell every seat they can as a season ticket so they get theirs no matter what, and everyone else pays the price...litterally in this case.[/rant]

Also, if I can add some petty ranting about a petty practice. The Packers seem to enjoy everyone talking about how long their list is, so while many teams charge to get on the list (money that would be applied to the tickets) to ensure people are serious the Packers let one person sign up their entire extended family. In fact the Jets charge $50 PER YEAR to be on their list and have 17,000 people on it. Even the Lions and Texans have lengthy wait lists and they charge $25 once and $10 per season respectively.

The Eagles have a list of 60,000 and the Packers have 61,000, but neither of them have any more of an obligation than a mailing list.

Edit: Not to say that one is a better approach than the other, just that the teams that charge have a more accurate list, and at the very least comparing those numbers is comparing apples and oranges.

this doesn't help the fact that nobody will get to see the Vikes play their opener on tv...

Well, it kind of does. I imagine a large part is people just assuming the tickets were already sold. I have a hard time believing there would be seats left for the Packer game if people knew they were available.

Truth be told, I fully expect the tickets to be sold and the game to be televised. I just wanted to see how many posts and what the word count would be if I posted that article. You did not let me down! emoticon

They will be sold, some company (maybe even the Vikings themselves) will by the tickets, give them to a charity, and then just write it off.

I think sometime in the last couple years some politician bought an ass ton of tickets to a Rams game to stop it from being blacked out...but I can't seem to find anything on it because the Rams apparently have like 14 potential blackouts a year.

Well 13 is the most home games you could have, counting preseason, and even for that the ball would really have to bounce your way.

I wasn't so much commenting on your "in not, more" comment as I was pointing out my own miscalculation. Though meant to be an exaggeration it's the type of situation I would normally insert some feasible, yet improbable, number.

charging a person just for the priviledge of "waiting" for tickets seems kinda shady, which is why the morally superior Packers organization doesn't charge for this. So there.

Right, they took the moral high ground and just charge $1400 per seat for the privilege of then paying for your tickets.

Did we have 40 passing yards per point last year? That seems high. I vote for 33.

If a viking fans screams in disappointment in Wisconsin, do any Wisconsinites hear it?

Can't you just download it somewhere? (although it wouldn't be real time of course, but at least you could watch it start to finish)

Actually, I forgot to update this-

Since the game was to be aired on Fox, and they faced a definite blackout (18,000 tickets!) and loss of revenues, they purchased all of the required tickets, and the show was aired as planned.

Fox bought the remaining 400 tickets, which were almost entirely made up of single seats scattered throughout the stadium. Next time don't go to brettfavrerules.com to get your Viking news. Try brettfavrerule.com instead.

At it's "peak" it was 5800 tickets.
