Favre and the 2010 NFL Preseason

Here's a good article on what happened the other day.

I also figured we should have a spot to discuss all the various NFL happenings that will no doubt start soon.

I love how even in retirement he remains a non-committal fans-come-last-if-at-all d-bag. You people deserve to hear it from the horses mouth. He told the Packers days ago, and somehow thought every minimum wage janitor and secretary was going to keep it under wraps?

This situation is different. He's hurt, and he wasn't our quarterback for 2 decades, and there was a press conference scheduled later that day.

(Also I was mainly just trying to piss you guys off.)

Stop bringing this football news up before the season starts. Clearly, on this baseball dominated website, we don't need football being brought up a full week before the first preseason game.

Wow. I don't know how to respond.
I'm pretty confused overall.
I think there's a giant communication gap between us, so I'm going to speak plainly and without irony or sarcasm.
I'll be honest, I was being slightly jerkish when I wrote the response to your comment about baseball and its inferiority to full contact sports. So I'll admit I'm not completely without blame. So I do apologize for that. Especially since you're sort of a guest here, and it's not good to antagonize guests. That being said, you're hardly a newcomer to our little website, so I thought a slight verbal jab would go over a bit better than it apparently did.

As for me talking more crap, you crushing my soul, etc. I don't think you have anything to worry about. The only thing I like less than an internet flame war is an internet flame war based on something as trivial as this.

I do want you to understand something though, because I think it's important. My apology for my original comment, and my lack of retaliation to your response, in no way legitimizes what you posted on this site. In my opinion, and by any reasonable measure, your comment was immature and distasteful. Even forgetting that it could be considered offensive to me, honda owners, those who like tropical drinks, homosexuals, virgins, and baseball players, it's pretty disrespectful to all of us who like to come to this website and have a reasonable, good-natured conversation about sports without having it devolve into obscenity filled nonsense. To go back to the host/guest analogy, it'd be kind of like you coming to our house, me poking fun at your shoes, and you retaliating by relieving yourself on the front step. Offensive to me, sure, but it's also pretty much polluting everyone else's experience.

In closing, feel free to come and use our website to chat about stuff, and don't be afraid to give a friendly jab or two along the way if you'd like. But if you're looking for a fight, or someplace to excercise your right to unleash your inner howard stern, feel free to find a different outlet. That way you can stick to reading what is written here without adding any words of your own.

I found Pat Mccurdy quite enjoyable; I've only seen him once, and I say if you don't like him that you have 0 sense of humor and don't like anything. So there! and what does social IQ have to do with anything?

Besides, what's the point of putting "time and effort" into something if it still comes out horrible, embarrassing, and not funny; ie, that Favre video.

In the spirit of fairness and full disclosure, I go on record saying that I don't think the Packer song is Mccurdy's best song. But it still is a fun song.

I like it. The only reason to be against it is if you think the young barely on the roster guys deserve a shot (people like to root for underdogs. Rudy...Rudy...Rudy), but from an objective/team standpoint on the bubble wideouts are a dime a dozen. Every team in the league is 2 weeks away from cutting 2-4 of them. Assuming they were able to sign him for squat, there's really no downside. Walker was only such a noteworthy disappointment in his post Packer life because he's been paid like a number one and some. I remember thinking the Vikings could sign him to a somewhat bargain deal 2 years ago, and then the Raiders paid him a billion dollars. He's been limited with injuries, and people get old fast in today's NFL, but Walker as a #4 receiver making #4 receiver money is a can't miss. If he sucks he sucks, anything he adds is pure gravy to an already solid bunch.

We need more than 7 teams for either format.
Does Yahoo! provide support for that or would the head to head be "offline" so to speak? Actually, I suppose the rotisserie would be easier to do offline.
The format affects weekly start/sit decisions so having the same roster (and I'm assuming same starting lineup?) for both is kind of weird.

We'll have more than 7 once Craig, Scott, and Jon sign up. I am also checking to see if my cousin wants to play. I think the head to head would have to be done offline, i.e. I just put in everyone's players. We could do 2 drafts but I'm not sure if people would sit through that...

Maybe Walker realized what almost every other former Packers receiver has realized: once you go Favre, you don't go back. Seriously though, Walker is another in a line of Packer wideouts who had good stats in Green Bay and then fell off the radar when they left GB. I cannot think of a single former GB WR who had any sort of career after leaving Green Bay, most assuredly because Favre made that receivers what they were.

Since nobody has said anything worthy of criticism recently, I'll go ahead and get things started: the Packers offense looks pretty good so far. And to use someone's example from last season about things in the preseason that actually do seem to count, the Packers executed a near perfect 2 minute drill at the end of the first half last night that resulted in a touchdown. So that's ok, I guess.
