Senate passes jobless aid, business tax breaks

I wasn't going to post this because, well, what's the point. But then I was reading through the comments and saw this gem:

"all the unemployed peoole paid all now all they want is a job. people want to pay for their dream now our kids don't even know what that dream is. what our kids see is or hear I can't afford it. Can u believe my dauthers prom is coming tickets are 75.00 each plus a limo {I can't afford that] so they will be droped off a block away] in my ford escord 1963 very low miles [they also did that for homecoming]well my daughter has a little savings &I am not laied off my company store closed so there is no chance called back"

I sure hope this lady's first language is not English. But ignoring the fact that you need a secret ring decoder to read this, the sentiment of the comment still makes me sick. You need an unemployment check so that you can rent a limo for your daughter's homecoming? You cannot be serious. I've been to prom (well, the ILHS version) and stood up in multiple weddings and I've never been in a limo. My dreams did not die, my spirit was not crushed. I have survived and your daughter will too.

Unfortunately for both us, we'll probably survive to see the day that all the government entitlement programs go bankrupt (I'm talking about you Social Security) and foreign governments stop giving us all their money (or crank up the interest rates). Every bill like this that passes while the national deficit grows pops a fluffy cloud holding my dream of a future financially sound USA aloft.

In a vaguely related note, I was watching Daniel Tosh on Comedy Central the other day and thought this was as profound as it was funny ,"Wonder why other countries hate us? We have a game show in our country called "Survivor." That's a game in our country ...You can win a million dollars for surviving on a place where people already live. Do you realize what kind of message that sends? Not a good one! 'Excuse me, I've been here for 60 years. May I have some bread?' 'Haha!!! No! We're American's! This is a game! OH NO! We don't have our cell phones! This is so hard!"

"Among other things, it exempts businesses that hire the unemployed from paying the 6.2 percent Social Security payroll tax through December and gives employers an additional $1,000 credit if new workers stay on the job a full year. Taxpayers will have to reimburse Social Security for the lost revenue."

What a joke

Wtf does this mean?

"The new money is going to housing finance agencies in states with the most people in counties with unemployment rates above 12 percent. The agencies will design programs that need to be approved by the Treasury Department."

Speaking of housing, I'm close to buying a house. $8,000 tax credit, here I come!

Edit: and for the record, I probably wouldn't even be considering it if it wasn't for the $8,000 tax thing.
