I've joined, but I may not make the draft date/time. It's my birthday, you see. The day after Micah's, as a matter of fact. |

Did you intentionally schedule the draft in the middle of a Packer game? |

I realized this this past weekend. I knew when the draft was and I knew when the Packer game was and never connected the two. I've been mad at myself ever since. |

Are you in Jon? Also, we have a 13 team league, maybe 14, and a 6 person bench. I think we should cut down on the number of bench players. Yes? |

Yes, cut down. I did a twenty person league last night and it gets kind of ridiculous picking up 6th string receivers that might not make the cut. |

Didn't we have 6 with 12 teams last year? I petition for at least 5, preferably 6 and you can switch it to autodraft once you don't care anymore. |

It has nothing to do with the draft taking longer. It makes the other 99.9% of the fantasy season lame when every RB, WR, and QB who could ever conceivably touch the ball went in the draft. There's no strategy left at that point, you just have to hope for no injuries. |

Well, it will kind of stink for a person who has a great draft but because of the bye weeks they have to drop players that they really don't want to or just forfeit those weeks. There's strategy in that you might actually have 3 decent RBs on your roster and you have to try and pick which 2 will have the best game for a given week. |

If you draft horribly or are just really unlucky with injuries you will lose. That's the way this thing works. |

Well, it's not like we're talking about superstars floating around. If you have a horrible draft you're still going to be done for. IMO it will keep the league more interesting for more people longer if the best players available aren't the Falcon's 4th string receiver and a fullback on the Cardinals that got a TD once because Edgerrin James lost a contact lens on the play before. |

You should count your blessings. The auto picking algorithm didn't pick a runningback for Tony's team (a-rod's era) until it filled everything else, and it drafted 7 QB's to Craig's team (Portage Pumas), 5 of them backups. (It actually picked 2 backups from the Patriots, so it picked at least one 3rd stringer) His starting qb is so-so and the only other QB with a chance to play is J.T. O'Sullivan, so at best he'll do just well enough to keep his job. Seriously, file that one under "bug." Good one, yahoo. |

Well, in some fairness to the algorithm, everyone was picking RBs about 50 picks ahead of their avg pick. That's why I didn't bother to take a 3rd RB until round 13. |

You told me not to use the autopicker because it would pick a kicker way too early, so I just removed all the kickers from the players I wanted drafted. And as expected I didn't waste a pick on a kicker. Instead it wasted 6 picks on the worst quarterbacks imaginable. I'm willing to bet I've got more depth at the CQB* position than anyone in the league. Good news owners! I'm listening to offers on all my QBs! *Crappy Quarterback |

Right, that way you could end up with a marginal 3rd string WR, a QB that could be a complete bust (and probably wont put up good fantasy numbers either way), and 3 running backs that are backups behind sure-fire starters. What WERE the rest of us thinking?! |

Reggie Williams had 10 TDs last year, everyone thinks Garrard will be have a pretty good year, and the rest of the WRs on the team more or less aren't very good. Steal of the draft. Besides who was left for RB? Ahman Green? He might reach 100 carries this year (which is why I took Slaton). Maurice Morris might actually be a starter, not that it matters since the Seahawks pass the ball 95% of the time. And I'll probably drop Brandon Jackson before week 1, I just wanted to stash an extra RB for a week since I don't give a hoot who I end up with for a defensive player (in other words, I'm fine with ditching that slot). After round 6, Ray Rice was really the only RB on my radar and that was just to handcuff to McGahee. For fantasy purposes I don't care if Rodgers bombs (although I think you vastly underrate his potential) because I think McNabb will have a big year. To harp on the sure-fire starters comment, Green has had less than 80 carries 2 of the last 3 years, Julius Jones is listed 2nd on the Seahawks depth chart, and I sure hope that Ryan Grant is healthy enough for a full load of work but I remain skeptical until proven otherwise. Really there only are about 5 (ok, maybe 10) sure-fire starting RBs. |

It's true it doesn't matter as much in some regards, but it would matter if you had a really small bench and weren't able to put an active player in there unless you dropped someone, due to bye weeks of players lining up with each other, while other teams might not have that problem. Of course, we've already had the draft so it doesn't matter, but you know, I figured I'd throw that in, since I think that's what Alex was getting at. |

Alex Wrote - 08/29/2008 @ 06:04:50 PM For fantasy purposes I don't care if Rodgers bombs (although I think you vastly underrate his potential) because I think McNabb will have a big year. Obviously Rodgers could hold every passing record known to man in 10 years. Do you know how many quarterbacks had "potential" before they were given a chance in which they floundered or failed spectacularly? It's not the exception, it's the rule. Factor out the flops (out of the league), the journeymen who are just good enough to keep making rosters, the caretaker QB's, and the high-picks-who-would-be-flops-but-the-team-made-too-big-of-an-investment-to-just-dump, and you have roughly 98% of the guys to ever take a snap in the NFL. I'm not saying Rodgers is going to suck, but the odds are stacked against him as a QB. Factor in the "replacing a legend" notion and his odds dip even more. Alex Wrote - 08/30/2008 @ 02:20:53 PM I guess I could've taken Rudi Johnson in the 6th round ;) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3561014 Well, I knew his days in Cincy were likely numbered one way or another, but I thought I'd take a flyer on a guy who was a top five pick not that long ago. He's a Lion now, and will likely be the starter soon. I liked my team at that point, and any positions I had to fill had a pretty much equal tier of guys who would have been a bigger reach, and where still available when my next pick came around. You have to keep in mind that the "not obvious" (mid-late round) picks' avg pick is arbitrarily lowered by the vast amount of autodraft teams that fill their kicker and d player before going back for reserves. |
