I really wasn't going to care a lot about this draft, but I think the Bucks just made an awesome trade so I may have to actually pay attention to them until they prove that they can still stink up the joint.

The trade was Bobby "never give 5 years and $47 mil to the league's most improved player" Simmons and Yi "I don't want to play for Milwaukee" Jianlian for Richard Jefferson of the Nets. So they traded 2 guys who were splitting time at best, for a bonified starter at their weakest position. This is the most excited I've been for the Bucks since they mortgaged the future by trading Ray for Gary for a last hurrah before going supernova.

Jefferson can score, which takes pressure off of everyone else on the offensive end, where the Bucks were already decent. And he's a way better defender than either guy that he was traded for which should improve their team defense and specifically takes a ton of pressure of Redd on the defensive end because Jefferson will probably guard the other teams best scoring SF/SG.

Now lets see what they do with their pick...

Well, they trade for an above average SF and then they spend the #8 pick on a SF in Joe Alexander. Not sure that makes a ton of sense, but I loved watching him at West Virginia last year so overall I'm excited to see what he can do for the Bucks. I wonder if they won't try and move D Mase now.

I am not any more excited than I was previously. I like Jefferson he is a second tier almost superstar that will compliment Redd nicely. Otherwise, I expect to see some more action to bolster the bench.

In case you haven't seen it.
From Bill Simmons' NBA Draft diary (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/080626)

5:18: Milwaukee takes Joe Alexander with the eighth pick, a good idea because Bilas thinks he's a "freak of an athlete" and has "freakish athleticism." And if that's not enough, he was born in Taiwan and speaks Mandarin. I like what I'm doing as the new Bucks GM -- I stole Richard Jefferson for a broken-down Bobby Simmons and the Chairman, Yi Jianlian, and I drafted a proven college player with freakish athleticism who speaks Mandarin and gives the state of Wisconsin a white guy to rally around. I'm 2-for-2! YES WE CAN!

(By the way, for what the Nets "got" in that trade, they should just buy out Simmons, then use the extra money to erect a 50-foot billboard across the street from LeBron's house that says, "We have loads of cap space in 2010!" with the Nets logo in the corner. Because that could be the only explanation.)
