Jury Duty

I have been called to perform my civic duty of serving on jury duty. I am to report starting Tuesday, May 27, and I guess for a week or two following. I will probably be updating this blog with my experiences as I go through the process.

One thought that keeps going through my mind is the desire to recreate Henry Fonda's role in the movie 12 Angry Men. I mean, why not see how long we can make this thing last, right? The best thing though is that I get to miss work WITH pay for this, so I have lots of motivation to draw this out as long as it can go. Anyway, tune in for updates after my session tomorrow evening.

just a note- don't bring a switchblade to jury duty. Or anywhere near the courthouse.

In the movie 12 angry men, Fonda's character buys a switch blade to demonstrate how the killer could have easily bought a switch blade from any pawn shop in town. (just in case Jeremy hasn't seen the movie and didn't get the reference). He then pulled it out in the jury deliberation room and stuck it in the table.

I've seen the movie, or at least on of the remakes. I was just joking about the fact that some lawyer/judge/government-official is going to see your post after the trial of the century you're going to be involved with draws out, think you're staying true to your word, and toss you in the big house.

There was a 1997 remake for Showtime, with Jack Lemmon in the Henry Fonda role. I've seen both versions, but it's been a while for both so I can't comment on how they compare.
