NBA trades
02/13/2008 8:39 pm
The Gasol trade seems like a good move for both teams to me. Memphis got a couple first round picks at any rate.
Shaq-Shawn seems like kind of bad idea for the Suns. It depends how much negative chemistry effect Marion was really having. This was a no-brainer in my opinion for the Heat. Things couldn't have been worse for them and any change is a chance for new hope at least.
The Kidd trade that apparently almost happened was not a good one for the Mavs in my opinion. If you believe stats (and Hollinger) Kidd is just about washed up and ex-Badger Harris is actually pretty good and improving. Latest news is a deal was imminent but Devean George was part of the deal and he had the power to veto it.

At this stage in his career, Devean George should just be happy to play anywhere. When the Shaq trade hit the wire last week, I thought it was a bad deal for the Suns. However, the Matrix didn't seem too upset, and the Suns inevitably will get older, get worse, and pretty soon they are the Bucks for the next thirty years. I'm sure their train of thought is to ride Shaq (if he ever plays) for as much as its worth. Plus, the inside game wins championships. If Kwame Brown, the best player on any planet, (according to Jordan) ever reaches his potential, I say fair trade. |

As long as the Suns have Kevin Johnson, they'll be all right. |

KJ has mad skillz. And if his wikipedia page is accurate he'll be running for mayor of Sactown. |

Basketball? I personally can't pretend to care enough to convince anyone. Is it a good year for basketball or something? How bout them T'wolves? |

Gasol seems great for the Lakers, and if he and Bynum can exist together down low they appear to be as unstoppable as the patriots. I mean, nevermind. Memphis did get two picks which I thought seemed ok, but then I remembered that if the lakers are any good at all, which they look like they will be, those will be low picks. You can get good players there, but it's not the same thing as a lottery pick. Marion wanted to be a marquee guy on a bad team instead of a universally appreciated guy on a really good team I think. I'm basing that off an article I read a year or so ago and the fact that it sounds like he wanted to be traded and he and Amare Stoudemire didn't get along or something. Anyway, if that's what Marion wanted, he kind of lucked into a decent situation. Granted they are really really bad right now, but there are worse spots to be in than on Wade's team. I agree with Alex, it was kind of a no brainer for the Heat. Shaq wasn't doing anything for them anyway. They do end up paying a bit more salary wise even though Shaq's 20mil was a ton. Marion plus Banks make it just more than that which is basically a wash though. As for the Suns, it will be interesting. They played well when Amare was hurt previously, but they had Marion then. But peole say Amare is more comfortable at the 4 so Shaq will allow that to happen. If Marion and Amare couldn't coexist any longer, then the risk wasn't that high to make the trade since they had to do something. But I don't know if that was the case or not. To me, the Kidd trade definitely looks good for the Nets who get about 850 players in the deal and Kidd didn't want to be there (or anywhere) anyway. Jason Kidd is a great point guard, but the guy ALWAYS wants to be traded from what I've noticed. He started his career with the Mavericks and he left because he demanded a trade. Plus he's older now, so the Nets can move on now. I don't know how good he is for the Mavs, I don't watch nearly enough to know. |

One final thought, I wonder how this will affect Vince Carter. I know he has played well since being on the Nets but I haven't noticed how he's done this year. |

Although I didn't actually watch him play a ton or know that much about him. But I thought he was cool and I liked the Suns back then. |

I used to play that game! I think he was on my custom team that I made. If I could find the game, I think my team is still on there. I should try that. The team seemed good at the time, but it's probably kind of dated too. Here are some others that I can remember. David Robinson Vin Baker Glenn Rice Scottie Pippen Mitch Richmond Reggie Miller |

That game for the Sega Genesis is my all time favorite basketball video game. Penny was a solid all-around choice and Tim Legler was unbelievably good from downtown, I think because he won the 3 point shootout the year before. It was a great game because it was just hard enough on All Star level for a realistic challenge. It was also fun to play 2 against the comp and turn off all the fouls, because if you turboed into the other team you could knock them down, steal the ball and launch wide open treys. Dee Brown was good too, and he was one of those guys for me where really I'm not sure I ever saw too many games with him in it on TV but I still considered myself a fan of his based pretty much on this game. |

We should change this entire site into a forum discussing all things related to 1990's NBA. Any takers? Either way, the name Dee Brown cannot be mentioned without bringing up his Dunk Competition title. He did the "blindfolded" dunk using his own arm to cover his eyes. I believe that was pre-Cedric Ceballos using an actual blindfold. Ceballos was on my Live 95 team too! I'm pretty sure. I just remembered that as I was forming this comment! He was one of the players that I just liked for some reason (possibly the dunk comp.) and so I put him on the team even though he wasn't a superstar. (Although looking at his wikipedia page, it looks like he had some pretty good years right around then.) One other thought about NBA and video games. Does everyone remember NBA Jam? It had it's pros and cons as far as I'm concerned, but among arcade games from my youth, I think only Off-Road stands out more in my mind. |
