The Twins almost lost Hunter for 3 years
04/24/2007 9:55 am
Tori Hunter unknowingly violated a rule that may have landed him a 3 year suspension.
rule 21-b, which proclaims "Any player or person connected with a Club who shall offer or give any gift or reward to a player or person connected with another Club for services rendered ... in defeating or attempting to defeat a competing Club ... shall be declared ineligible for not less than three years."
Hunter sent champaign to the Royals for sweeping the Tigers last season, which is in clear violation of this rule. I think they are going to give Hunter a pass and the bubbly will be returned. That's a bit of a scary thought though.

Yeah I read that. It's a good rule, I guess, but I don't think it was made with a "good natured" gift to a whole team in mind. I have to believe it was made with more nefarious purposes in mind. |

Also there's like a 90% chance he wont be a Twin after this year anyway. |

rule 21-b that is referenced in the article and I quoted. I cannot find "rule 21-b" on the internet. |

(b) GIFT FOR DEFEATING COMPETING CLUB. Any player or person connected with a club who shall offer or give any gift or reward to a player or person connected with another club for services rendered or supposed to be or to have been rendered in defeating or attempting to defeat a competing club, and any player or person connected with a club who shall solicit or accept from a player connected with another club any gifts or reward for any such services rendered, or supposed to have been rendered, or who having been offered any such gift or reward, shall fail to inform his League President or the Commissioner immediately of such offer, and of all facts and circumstances therewith, shall be declared ineligible for not less than three (3) years. If I'm reading that right it's just as much in the Royals' interest to give it back as it is in Hunter's to get it back. |

I think the entire Royals team is guilty of 21 a: "to fail to give his best efforts towards the winning of any baseball game ". Maybe the cubs as well. |

I would like to see baseball make an example of Hunter on this. The integrity of baseball rests on the hinges of the commissioner striking down on |

Thanks to Scott's misspelling of Torii we're the number one source for people googling "Tori Hunter suspension for 3 years" I wonder where we're listed under "champaign". |

Hey, we've gotta start somewhere. Wow, did I butcher champagne too? Man, not my best blog, I must admit. Unless I meant that Hunter sent the city of Champaign, IL to the Royals, which indeed would be a pretty big violation of Rule 21 b. |
