Here's the thing. I'd personally prefer to date Karen. Here's the other thing. Michael is way too obnoxious for me to watch every minute of every episode. I just can't take it. I've found that an every other week or maybe just half a show at time schedule keeps the show enjoyable. Plus you still don't really miss too much usually. |

Yeah Sarah can barely tolerate him too. I think that must have been a common complaint because IMO they've noticeably toned down the character. In fact they gave him a couple episodes recently where he was downright likable. |

I can barely stand watching the Office because the whole concept doesn't work. Clearly Michael Scott should not be running an office, so why hasn't he been fired? He's not really with the times and says insensitive stuff all the time, and doesn't work, and blah blah blah. The only good things are Pam and Jim and the rest of the crew. Did Oscar really quit? Because his spot was given to someone else in this last episode. I don't think Jim's dating that Karen person. I think he only told Pam he's dating someone else because he's hurt. I'm just excited for the whole line up change beginning NOV 30TH. I like 30 Rock and of course I love Scrubs. It's gonna be a good night for the comedy. |

Matt and I talk all the time about how the show would be better if Michael (or others like Dwight) didn't go wayy over the top in basicallly every episode. It's best when the behavior is right at that line of something that is believable but uncomfortable and not just downright slapstick. But still, I think it's missing the point to say he shouldn't be running the office and that he should be fired because that's the basis of the show in some respects. Also, I would disagree with the assertion that they've toned down Michael. I think he's the same. Plus, they made him likable in the first season and second at times too. Which actually lends more creedence to the whole show I think. He has good qualities that got him the job in the first place but he's one of those people who really has no business being that high up. They go overboard to hammer home the point, which is somewhat unfortunate, but still wouldn't Turk and J.D. be fired for the crap they pull? It's a different style show obviously but it's the same kind of suspension of belief type of scenario. |

although other shows I find repulsive because of their lack of reality, so I think it really comes down to your taste and what kind of scenarios you are willing to go along with. |

Jon talking about Michael having no business being that high up reminded me of a theory/axiom/observation/what have you that I read awhile back. I can't remember the specifics, but it basically said that most people will end up working at a position that is one "level" above what their skills/abilities would warrant. The thinking behind this being that you would be able to achieve success and keep getting promoted based on your abilities, but when you get to what your ceiling should be, you will still be doing well, and your employer will promote you one more "level", where you are now in over your head, but because it is much easier to promote someone than demote/fire someone, you are just left there. This seems like the situation with Michael, he was a good salesman and was with the company long enough to be promoted, but his lack of people skills makes him a bad manager and unless he does something really bad (which he has, but hey it's a TV show) the company is stuck with him. |

Speaking of dating people, has anyone seen the show Shark on CBS? I should be dating Sarah Carter. |

I think that the boss is the one thing that makes the British version of the office so much better. I think the American counterparts of all the other characters are pulled off well, but Ricky Gervais is way better than Steve Carrell. |
