I think what Jeremy was referring to, is that in past years the Brewers only gave out bobbleheads to kids. This year, however, it looks like fans of all ages can get the bobbleheads that Scott listed.

Not the headline Twins fans wanted to see this spring.

Mauer reports knee soreness

Doctor's say the swelling is normal and to be expected, let's hope they're right.

Prediction: before opening day of 2006 Mauer will not be a catcher. (knees usually shorten the career of players playing catcher, ie craig biggio)

Alright, enough is enough. The government involvment in baseballs already over-mediaized steriods issues is REALLY starting to piss me off. Basically every thing said in this article by the government peeps is ridiculous. Some baseball players have used steriods in the past. Will they be prosecuted? No. Baseball has started a better testing program and everyone needs to move on now. The government needs to worry about paying me to live when I'm 80 and lowering the national debt and fighting terrorism, NOT trying to pry into the past to figure out who and when baseball players took steriods. What is the point of that even? About the only thing I can see coming out of that is testimony being "accidently" leaked to the media and some more guilty because someone and/or the majority of someones think that a player took steriods although they actually have no proof and a court case wouldn't last 2 seconds. In all seriousness, I'm just about ready to contact my elected officials and tell them to quit screwing around.

I thought of another thing that I'm infinitely more worried about than whether or not baseball players in the 90s used steriods. Identity theft. If the government wants to get after someone to have better policies in place they should start with companies that collect and store personal information. I'm willing to bet that 999,999.9 out of every 1,000,000 Americans would rather not have their identity stolen than know if baseball's drug testing program is adequate.

I hate how one newspaper can publish something that maybe possibly links someone to something and all of the sudden that someone is quilty or at least tainted. What happened to innocent until proven guilty in a court of law? Apparently in the court system of the national media everyone is guilty of everything.

Wow. I read something like that on page three about a month ago.

I agree in principle, but I hope you're not talking about Bonds. I know we don't KNOW he took steroids, but come on.

The thing that lead to the newspaper comment was an entire article about some New York paper that "possibly had a report that might link Mark McGwire to something that maybe might have something to do with steriods" (not the actual quote). There's two things that I'd like to say about Bonds though. First of all, sealed grand jury testimony should NEVER EVER EVER be leaked to the media and then spread around on every front page. That crime, and I'm pretty sure it is a crime, should be punished. Instead, the crime goes unnoticed and unpunished while people involved suffer because of it. Secondly, until it's proven in a court of law, who are we to say if Bonds has or has not used steriods. How would you like it if people who knew nothing about your life started accusing you in the national media of something and before long everyone thinks your guilty, and then even if you try and refute it your words just get twisted to make things look worse?

I totally agree that it's ridiculous that the stuff was leaked. I also agree that I would hate people speculating about all kinds of stuff about me and my life.

And actually it isn't right for me to imply that Bonds taking steroids is an obvious truth. But I do however think that there is room for reasonable discussion and reasonable personal opinions, as long as people are honest with themselves that they don't KNOW everything and they keep open to other possibilities. I guess it's a line we have to tread carefully.

And maybe I count as national media since this is on the internet and all, so maybe I shouldn't even go here, but on a matter of personal opinion, it just seems to me like it's more likely than not that Bonds took steroids. Maybe it's wrong of me to even speculate, but this is a blog and so I'll just tell you what I'm feeling.

After listening to Barry and reading what he's said, it seems to me like he's about one step away from pulling a Nathan T. Jessup and just admitting in a fiery rage that of course he used steroids and cursing out everyone in attendance.

But again, that's just personal opinion. Just a feeling. Feel free to disagree.

I'm looking at what I wrote and questioning whether I'm right about this statement.:

"But I do however think that there is room for reasonable discussion and reasonable personal opinions, as long as people are honest with themselves that they don't KNOW everything and they keep open to other possibilities."

Honest question here for all who care to respond, "Is it morally/ethically fair to do this? That is, to discuss our opinions on issues involving other people even though we don't know all the facts. Is this gossip? Is it constructive conversation?

And for further discussion/thought:
Does the public/private nature of the issue change the "rules" on this?

I know this was a bobblehead thread to start and moved on to other baseball issues, but we can take some time to discuss ethics, can't we?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and of course freedom of speech and such. And no, I wouldn't consider this to be national media. It just bothers me when supposedly reputable news sources are in such a hurry to break the latest news that they hardly take more than a second to verify anything, and then if they are found to be wrong later they blame their sources. I realize that this has been going on for a long time and probably will never change, but I wish they could be held more accountable and that less people would believe things just because it was on CNN or in a newspaper. Example, I've heard and read many many times that an obvious clue to Bonds' alleged steriod use is the increased size of his head. Yet I read a quote from Bonds himself (tucked away in some small article) that said his hat size has always been the same, it was 7 something I think like 7 3/4, which really isn't that big (funny side note, freshman year in high school a guy on the baseball team ordered something ridiculous like a size 9, biggest baseball cap ever). Maybe he's lying, but I have yet to read any actual accounts of someone measuring his head, so I'll take his word (on that issue anyway) against people who are just making stuff up.

in other news, Bill O'reilly emphatically claimed that Brian Nichols wrestled a gun away from the guard who was escorting him, when in fact Nichols got the gun from a nearby lock box after taking the keys from the guard.
