A one year deal does th packers no good and a one year deal in a place with a 0% chance to start and about a 10% chance to see any time at all doesn't do Couch any good.

In a cap strapped year you guys could have found better ways to spend 1.3 mil.

I beg to differ. If Doug Pederson ever had to play in a game, the Packer's chance of winning (X) would instanstly become log(X). Couch has no where else to go. I'm not going to take the time to try and look it up, but I would guess that 1.3 mil is not a bad price for a decent backup QB. I know that I'll feel a lot better with Couch as the backup. And with Farve always talking about retirement, I don't think anyone could be too suprised if he called it quits any year now. A decent backup might also allow Farve to get more rest at the end of blowout games.

I bought a vehicle Saturday. The rusty Cav has seen better days, and now that I have some income flow I can afford a loan. I bought a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT with the 4.0L V6 and the off-road package. It's pretty sweet. It can play MP3s too, so I can take the 50 cds I have in my car and combine them into 3 cds.

Storytime.

So I recently moved. I needed to cancel my Charter subscription. So I call Customer Service. The lady there says they can stop my billing whenever I bring in the digital box and the cable modem. Then she takes my new address so they can send me the bill and says everything is ready to go, just drop off the equipment. So May 26 I take in the stuff. And the lady there can't find my new address, so I have to wait 20 minutes for her to putz around on the computer and get my address entered, again. Then I leave town expecting a small final bill to be sent sometime soon.

Today, I get a bill from Charter in mail. I open it up and it says 200.57 due. Services for 6/22-7/21 and a late fee of 3.25. At this point I'm about ready to blow a gasket. So I call Customer Service again and immediately launch into a pissed off rant. The lady stops my rambling incoherent accusations to check on my account. It had "closed" today and there was only a balance of 14.62 due.

As I start to get even more into depth on information handling and cost cutting measures at my job, this kind of shizzle makes me sick. They sent me a bill that in reality was meaningless, and it took them 3 weeks to "close" my account. The kind of system that requires that kind of foolishness must be a real piece of garbage. Maybe they're hiring Jeremy :)

It's about time the Brewers give Sheets a tad bit of run support, although 4 runs isn't exactly a blowout. The Brewers are back to 4 games over .500. I hope they can win this series and get a few wins in a row so they can hover around 6 or 7 games over for a while. That would be nice.

I'm flooding the blog.

I'm making my early bid for Ben Sheets being this year's Cy Young Award Winner. (mid-season)

He is currently 5th in the league in ERA with 2.59
He is third in strikeouts with 98
He is first in WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) with .9 (tied with Randy Johnson)
He is second in strikout per walk ratio with 5.94 K/BB.
HE is 5th in Hits per 9 innings with 6.7
HE is 4th in opponent batting average allowing only a .202 average.

Randy Johnson is the only pitcher right now that is ahead of Sheets in 4 of these six categories, and only Sheets is in the top 5 in all these categories. If Jarrod Washburn gets mentioned one more time in the same breath as the words Cy Young, I will just about scream.

Not that I don't want him to win, but for Sheets to get the Cy Young he would have to win 20 games (he's only on pace for 15) OR the Brewer's would actually have to make the playoffs. These assumptions of mine were further strengthened while looking up Sheet's pace when I read this article in which Timmy K. denies Lyle Overbay.
AVG. H HR RBI 2B BB
Overbay 342 83 7 49 28 28
Casey 362 93 13 50 25 20

Casey's numbers are slightly better, but what really gets me is that the kicker reason is the argument is that the Reds have "been in contention all season". First of all, any team in last place right now could still win their division (last year's Marlins???). Secondly, the fact that Casey bats in a lineup that is better than Overbay's should be a negative in this case not a positive. The Reds have 2 of the top 6 in home runs and another player (Larkin) besides Casey who is over .300. Compare that to what Overbay has around him. No one with even 10 HRs and the next highest average is .282. The point being that if Overbay was in the Reds lineup his numbers would be even better than Casey's because he would get more pitches to hit and would have more people on base for him.

"Been in contention all year"......the Brewers have had at one time or another a better record than every team in their division. The Brewers don't get respect simply because they are the Brewers. It's not because they haven't won in the past, it's not because they are a young team, it's because they are the Brewers and they are from Wisconsin. There is a long history of this. In 1980, Don Money, the 3rd baseman for the Brewers set a Major League record with only 5 errors all season. 5 ERRORS!!!! He didn't win the gold glove, rather some other guy who had won it 3 or 4 years in a row got it. Scott Podsednik didn't win the Rookie of the Year award last year. That is the biggest sham in the history of the award. It makes no sense at all. I have not heard a single argument that even begins bring that to my understanding, and being on a winning team should have (theroretically) NO EFFECT on individual awards like MVP, Rookie of the Year, and Cy Young. When the Tigers started out hot, their was fairly mild bandwagoning (i just made that a verb) from many sources at ESPN and other sports places. The Brewers had just as good of a start and still more than a couple people in authority said that they have no chance and that it is foolish to even think it. The Cubs have been up and down for the last 10 years, but their always "contenders". I actually get the picture from some people that the Brewers, even though they are 4 games over .500, are actually underachieving. ok rant over....

I think if Sheets continues to pitch like this the whole season, he will at least be in the conversation for awards and stuff. His low win total might hurt him a little, but if you have any knowledge of baseball whatsoever, you will realize that when you give up less 3 er PER START, winning the game is no longer in your hands.

I mean I always knew he was good and he used to get the hype, but I forgot that he was THAT good. I'd continue this discussion but I don't want to be the one to say anything that might cause you know what (He's still ahead of Bond's pace by age).

FYI Age-wise in HRs counting only completed seasons (ie, not this year), Griffey is ahead of Bond's pace by 70, and A-Rod is ahead of Griffey's pace by 51. Based on their average output over the last five years (not really fair to Griffey but oh well) Bonds needs another 2 years (counting this year), Griffey needs 10.5 years (only 7 if he can average 40 a year), and A-Rod needs 8.6 years (he'll only be 37) to get the current record. It might take A-Rod longer if one of the other two breaks it first.

That took way too much work, I need to go to bed.

So it looks like T-Mac might go to Houston. I don't know about that one. Doesn't seem like the best fit to me. I think he could play SF for the Bucks. McGrady, Redd, and Ford, that'd be pretty sweet. They could trade Van Horn and pretty much anyone else besides Joe Smith. Too bad they don't have a first-round draft pick to toss in. Oh well, the next couple days will be interesting with the expansion draft, the regular draft, and T-Mac and Shaq wanting trades. Probably not much action for the Bucks though. As of now they have one pick, #16 in the second round. Now that the team isn't for sale though they must have some money to use on free agents this year. It seems like they could always use more quality big men.

Storytime Continued...

So I had sent in my check for 14.62 on Friday I think. Then today I get something from Charter in the mail. It's an updated bill with the last 2 months charges refunded (just plain foolish) and my final total listed. 14.65. So if they think I'm going to pay 37 cents to send them a check for 3 cents after they specifically told me the wrong number, they best be prepared to go to court.

ps Rock the Vote 2004 - vote for the most deserving players (ie actually base it at least somewhat on recent performance (Sammy Sosa?????)) for the All-Star game. It's your duty as citizen of Sports Nation. Also vote for the ESPY's (in the categories about which you actually know something) (vote for the Marlins whenever possible, they deserve it).

Yes, that's exactly the game.

He could be up for most consecutive 20TD seasons ever, or most 30td seasons too. He's pretty close to most wins, and depending how long he plays he could come close to closing in on Marino's TD record.

lifetime achievment in most seasons in a row single handedly ending your teams playoff run......this award is unanimously awarded to Donovan McNabb.

Brett has 9 in season ending games in 2001-2003
Donovan has 5.

*Arguably the worst pass ever thrown.

So seeing as McNabb throws one int a game to Brett's 2 (and although it's not what we're talking about it should be pointed out that McNabb has been to almost twice as many games in that span) I think the award still goes to Brett.

Not this will happen (or that I necessarily want it to), but if Farve played as long as Marino its quite likely he would break almost all of the QB records. Also, in the game of football it's only on vary rare occasions that you can actually blame a loss on (or credit a win to) one player.

But in both Favre's and McNabb's cases, McNabb has had more "endings" to his team's playoff runs, 3 of which came in the NFC Championship game, 2 of those came at home. And that one INT favre threw in the 2003 playoffs is not even close to the worst pass ever thrown.

and in 2001 6 int's came in one game, but that still doesn't necessarily put 100% of the blame (aka single-handedly*) on him, because they defense sucked in that game just as much as favre did. So take away that one game and Favre has thrown 4 ints in 4 games, the same ratio as McNabb.

(how many playoff games has culpepper won, or any of the vikings QB in the last 13 years for that matter:).....) you know I had to throw that in there.

*i'm also not saying that McNabb single-handedly lost any game, but he's on a bad stretch too.

Also all 3 of McNabbs this year were one game, as long as you are tossing out outliers.

I think his 2001 6 int rams game was as close to single handedly losing a game as you can get in the nfl. I think he threw more td's to the rams than the packers. Trying to defend THAT preformance just goes to show you how bad the situation is.

Not only was that INT we are talking about not the worst Pass ever, it's not even Favre's worst pass ever. The 6 int game was a bad situation, and it probably is as close as you can get to single-handedly losing a game(easily the worst game of Favre's career), but football, like most team sports, it's almost impossible to lay the blame soley on one player. I wasn't defending the performance, I was pointing out other factors unrelated to the obviousness of the ints.

Why are we even talking about this? This is going to be a looong season if the Favre discussions are already this heated. I agree with the last line of Sarah's last comment:)

Farve did pretty much single-handedly lose the Rams game. That's not to say that even he would have had a decent game that they would won cause their defense sucked too, but not very many games are won by teams that throw 6 interceptions. And we're talking about this because football seems to be the favorite sport around here.

The best moment category is tough. As much as I would like to vote for Favre, the Phil Mickelson moment was probably one of the biggest reliefs that a professional athlete(i use the term loosely here) can accomplish. I must vote for Philthy Phil. Don't worry though, I voted for Favre in the other category.

I can't believe that Ernie Els was not in the Best Male Golfer category. He's the #2 ranked golfer in the world, and he may have just passed up Tiger over the weekend. That's a sham.

The ESPY is for last year. I don't Ernie was #2 last year, although I didn't check (it was probably Tiger or Singh). I was hoping the Bobcats would draft some crappy players from the Bucks but they didn't. I'm not sure about that Wash-Dal trade. The Wiz gave up 2 quality players (ok, Laettner isn't that good, but still) and a high draft pick for one player that didn't even start last year (though had he been on any other team he probably would have started). Interesting to say the least. Dallas is going to very active with trades I think. Cuban needs to actually try and form a team instead of just getting the "best" players he can all the time.

The Bucks have 0 draft picks now. They traded their number 1 for Mason 2 years ago (possibly one of the worst trades ever) and now they traded their 2nd round pick for Zaza Pachulia from the Bobcats. I can't wait till the season starts so I can learn how to say his name. Probably a good trade though. I'll hold my judgment until I see who they could have drafted.
